Phone Trade In, Verizon Credit $20 over 2 years thats a little ridiculous

I thought I was getting a good deal, I turned in my Samsung S9 in October. I believe it was worth $140 and I would have been just happy to recieve that, but Verizon said they would give me a $450 credit. I thought that was generous but I figured since they were keeping it in house. When I finally recieved a notification that it was ready, I couldn't find anything about it on my verizon account. After using the chat. I was finally able to get a person. Which directed me to another person in the trade in department. Which was Mina who nice, not her fault but informed me verizon will credit me 18.99 every month for 2 years. She said they do not issue gift cards for this but she showed how to look at my account and it says gift card for 450???? How can Verizon just determine how they are going to credit you without even giving you an option? I rather had just taken a lesser amount rather than take that over 2 years . Also there was no communication of how this would occur. This is terrible Id rather have my phone back or the $100. They are not even crediting me until next month.

Arodney, we are truly sorry to hear that you did not have full details on the Trade In Promotion. As a consumer, I know that the difference in value would definitely have my attention. When completing a trade for a promotional value, you do see the value applied in monthly credits toward the Device Payment Agreement. Details are available under number 1 for "Promotional Offers" at http://spr.ly/66061ur4i. Does this help to explain?

Anytime a phone company offers to give you money always ask and see it in writing how it will be dispursed, then make your decesion on the purchase.  In this case Verizon is giving the turn in value over a two year period thereby forcing you remain with the company paying for your service for two more years if you want their $20 credit each month.

A few years back when I did a BOGO for my S7's it was stated in writing I would receive a visa gift card for the full amount cost of the second phone which I did receive 6 weeks later. If they offered to pay me in installments I would have declined the BOGO.

I'm having the hardest time to figure out what the negative is in this. Maybe it's because I don't plan on swapping carriers every couple months to care about 2 years of service.

I'd gladly take $450 over $140 any day -- if you got that in a gift card over monthly credits, even better honestly. Verizon let's you pay off agreements early so you could take that $450 gift card towards that. Another advantage with that over monthly credits is you don't lose any credits for an early buy out!

Even $20 spread out over 2 years isn't a bad deal. Do you honestly see yourself upgrading or switching in that time?

There is not an option to recieve a $450 gift card or money of any kind and that is the problem. There are no options other than having $20 off of your bill every month for 2 years. Which is the core problem. $20 off of $145 bill is in essence nothing. If I wanted to leave before my 2 years were up I should be given that option. It's not up to them, which is my point.
