Oreo(8.0) update sms issues

Text messaging was working fine, then I updated my S8 to 8.0 and now I'm only sending and receiving somewhere around 65-75% of texts that I send or are sent to me. I've restarted my phone, I've started it in safemode, I've used different messaging apps... none of which has fixed the issue.

Is this an Android problem, Verizon problem, or Samsung problem?

We understand the importance of being able to send and receive text messages, Ralphazaar. Thank you for completing the troubleshooting steps. I want to make sure we get your device back working the way it should. What text messaging application are you currently using? Have you tried to reset the application?

 

  1. From a Home screen, touch and swipe up or down to display all apps
  2. From a Home screen, navigate: Settings Settings icon > Apps
  3.  Ensure All apps is selected

    4.Locate then select the appropriate app.

    5.Tap FORCE STOP.
    6.Tap FORCE STOP to confirm.

    7. Tap Storage.

    8. Tap CLEAR DATA.

    9. Tap DELETE to confirm.

     

    Please complete this step, and let me know if this helps with your text messages.

I'm also experiencing this same issue since the Oreo update. This is not a good thing for Big Red, as this is effecting business use (email) either being delayed, or just not coming through at all.

I have force-stopped and cleared cache for both gmail and message+ (not clearing the Data, as suggested. that's just a poor, lazy response). I have re-started my Note 8. I have disabled the Optimization through the Device Maintenance menu. And after testing work email, I am still not receiving.

This needs a fix ASAP, or a roll-back. Who QA'ed this update? They should be fired.

There couldn't be a better example of what major OS updates can do to, not for, phones than the S8/Oreo fiasco.  Why the manufacturers and providers think they need to fix things that aren't broken is beyond me.  Why is that Big Red?  And those of you from VZW who respond to comments like mine, please don't give us the standard canned responses about wanting our phones to operate better with all the latest and greatest features.  We're tired of hearing it.

We want to help as much as possible with any issues you're experiencing. It's never the manufacturer's or our intention for software updates to cause any trouble to your phone. Are you having trouble with sending & receiving texts on your Galaxy S8/8+? If so, let's make sure we figure this out. What messaging app are you using? Is the messaging app that you're using updated in the Play Store? Are you having trouble sending/receiving texts from all contacts or just specific contacts?

AliciaS_VZW, you obviously haven't read much here.  I don't have an S8.  I'm just pointing out to S8/S8+ users that major OS updates very often do more damage or cause major issues with than they improve the phones.  It seems that the software designers who write them don't have to use them, nor do they understand what disruption they can cause for users.

VZW Message+ is not pushing notifications when texts come through, or does so intermittently. Sending texts have also been going out of order intermittently. All contacts.

Gmail is significantly delayed.

Enterprise/Corporate Gmail is even worse. If/when it pushes, it's 8 hrs or more, later. Verizon really needs to roll-back the Oreo update if at all possible, until bugs/issues/defects like this are properly QA'ed and fixed.

And looking at various forums, this was an issue long before VZW decided to push. Not sure why the decision was made to do so...

There is always something exciting about a new software update, but it does take some time to get used to all the new changes. We are here to help ease the growing pains. How long ago did you do this update? After the update was preformed, have you updated the software on all of your downloaded applications? Have you tried using your stock texting application? Does that have the same notification issue? Email notification is much different. What are your refresh settings on your Gmail and Enterprise email accounts?
