Network Mode Default "Global" instead of "CDMA/LTE/EVDO"

I am the owner of a Samsung Galaxy S4 and have also owned an S3. When I first bought the S3, the default network mode was set to CDMA. Months later, the firmware was updated and the default was set to Global.

Fast forward to recently...I no longer have the S3 and instead, I have an S4. The S4 shipped with a default network mode of "Global."

I live in the US and as I understand it, there is no way to automatically flip between GSM and CDMA signals in the US. If that is possible, I can understand leaving the setting as Global because that would ensure I am always on the best possible network. If it is not possible, then I presume my phone is searching for GSM signals it will never receive thus needlessly wasting battery life.

Here is my question: If I live in the US and I do not travel outside of the country, should I switch my network mode back to CDMA or leave it on Global?
