How do I set up applications (and photos) to install (store) onto SD card instead of onto phone?

I'm trying to setup the phone to where any application that I install will get installed onto the SD card by default. I'm also trying to get the phone to store all the pictures I take with camera on the SD card. I had an older Samsung Infuse and it seemed a bit difficult to find this task but I'm at wit's-end trying on this phone.

THANKS in advance for any help!

To set the camera to store pictures on your SD card do the following:

1) Start the Camera app

2) Press the Menu button

3) Choose Settings from the pop up menu

4) On the top of each of the columns will be an icon (first column is camera settings, second column is video camera settings and the last is the settings for both).  Choose the icon on the third column (it looks like a small gear)

5) Scroll up until you see the word Storage (should be the next to the last item)

6) Touch Storage and choose Memory card (once you choose it you should see the word Memory card in blue after the word Storage)

BTW, this settings will be used for the both the camera and video camera.

The Android OS (4.0+) doesn't allow applications to be installed on the external SD card.

I would check the individual application settings for options to store the media and photos on the SD card.

Samsung has not released that update here in the USA.  They have leased it for the international version of the S4 in Germany but it is not what you are thinking of installing the whole app on the SD only a small portion of the app.  I have not heard when Samsung is releasing the update here in the USA.

Thank you everyone for your replies!

I've been able to read your posts but for some strange reason, unable to log-in or reset password until now - oh well.

Thanks for letting us know.

FYI it seems like the S4 update is now available through Samsung's Kies installer application.

Thanks for this info Ann 154 and BOBD1950. This sounds like the fix I'm looking for. My old smartphone (Samsung Infuse) used an Android OS that allowed apps to be installed onto SD card - I wonder why they digressed!

I've tried to get (install) an update before it was available by my carrier and had BIG problems. So - I'm gonna just keep checking for software updates via phone.

Google changed the Android file system to remove that feature. It was only added in FroYo because at the time the phone's internal storage was much smaller for installing applications. Today phones have larger internal storage space that doesn't need the option to store on an external SD card. Samsung, not Google, decided to add the Apps to SD feature back on their Galaxy S4 device. No other android phone with a modern android OS (4.0 and higher) has the option to install Apps on the SD card.

My Tbolt only has a little over 2 GB available for user applications and app data. I still have most of it available. I didn't store any applications on the SD card when it was running Gingerbread and I haven't wished I could since it has been on ICS.
