Galaxy S5 won't connect to home WiFi

My new Galaxy S5 won't connect to my regular home WiFi network. My old S3 connects just fine.  I can sit them side by side and the S3 will connect while the S4 won't.  All set up is the same.  I use WPA2-PSK security.  The S5 just shows 'saved, secured'.   However, I also have a Powerline set up to boost my wireless network to the other end of the house. The S5 will connect to the Powerline when I walk to the back of the house, but when I sit in the computer room where my router broadcasts from, I can't connect to it. We just replaced 3 phones in the house and none will connect to regular WiFi network anymore, they will only connect to the Powerline (two Galaxy S5 and one iPhone 5S).  Only the old Galaxy S3 will connect to both regular wireless router and the Powerline.  The problem with that is the Powerline covers half the house while the regular WiFi covers that other so I can't connect WiFi throughout the entire house anymore.

Check the password. You are attempting to connect to 2 different wi fi's at the same time (I think). If it even slightly detects the other one that you are connected to, I don't think it will automatically connect to the other. CHECK YOUR PASSWORD and if its capitalized or not.

Thanks for a reply.  I've checked the password and it's correct.  I've removed the network and had it 'rediscover' the networks again.  Still no luck. I can walk around the house with the S3 and it will automatically switch to the best signal so it will change between the powerline connection and the router connection.

still no connection to the main router and that's the important one because it is the best signal in  2/3 of the house.

Let me know if you find anything out. Having the same issue on both of my s5 phones. Doesn't matter where we are. They have a problem connecting or won't at all. The have sent me a replacement and that does the same thing. Now Samsung wants me to send it to them for repair, but that takes 2 weeks. I feel like there has to be something else.

I've had this happen on a couple of my devices:  it may apply to you.  Are you using any characters besides letters or numbers in your WiFi SSID or Password?  Some devices, no matter what, do not like things like spaces, or $ or !, etc.

If your SSID (WiFi name) has any non letter or number characters remove them and try again.  Same goes for the password.

It happens everywhere I go, with any WiFi I try. Not just in home. But my in home is just letters and the password is as well.

I have the same issue. I have one wifi that covers the main floor and upstairs and have another for the basement. Old phone swapped networks automatically and seamlessly. Galaxy S5 will not. HOWEVER, at work, it works just fine with the wifi there. However the work wifi uses the same SSID across all the buildings and conference rooms, so that may be part of the issue. What I did do, was tell the phone to forget the basement wifi and that did not help any, still won;t automatically connect to the house wifi. I am connecting to an ASUS router with dual frequency - and I am connecting to the 5 gHz channel. BTW, it will manually connect fine each time, it just decides eventually to stop being connected and has to be manually connected again.

Found same basic thread elsewhere and I am trying a couple things from that. First suggestion that seems to work for some is to forget all your networks and then redo them. Another, is to make sure your wifi does not turn off when sleeping: "wifi>settings>advanced>keep wifi on during sleep>always". I did also upgrade my wife's phone to a galaxy S5 and hers stays connected just fine and automatically reconnects. So I just changed those settings above to something else, rebooted phone and changed them back and will see if that works. It works when I turn off wifi and turn it back on. Don't know about the long term trend though.

I'm not sure if you tried this already.  I was having the same issue with my s5 and my Note 10.1(saved,secured message) and not connecting...All I did was unplug the router and reset it.  Both of my devices started working again.

Hope this helps!!

I figured it out! Man I've been trying to figure it out for days, but here's what I did. I tried a few different things to no avail. I went to my advanced wifi settings and made sure it allowed for switching back and forth from mobile to wifi.  Nothing happened. I unplugged the router, still nothing. I tried to change from dhpc to static. Couldn't do it. But then I thought hey what if I turned off my mobile data so on a whim I tried that and my wifi kicked in and turned on! I went back and checked to make sure I had it on switch from mobile data to wifi which u did then I turned my mobile data back on and I'm still connected to wifi. So see if that does the trick for you!
