My previous Samsung phone synced flawlessly with my Toyota Prius so that all I had to do was say "Dial <name>" and it would search my contacts and dial the correct number (or give me choices if it wasn't sure).
The S5 will not sync my contacts no matter what I have tried. I found a suggestion on another forum that said because I used Google as well, and my contacts were syncing with Google, that I needed to make sure all the Google contacts were in at least one group. That totally didn't work. Then I tried to add a contact just on my phone & not synced to Google. That didn't work either. It seems that the new phone will not sync contacts at all.
Since this worked with my previous Samsung, I'm assuming that this is a problem exclusive to the S5. Does anyone have the fix for this?

I have a Toyota camray and my contacts sync with google but my S5's Bluetooth connects fine to the car and I can push the button on the steering wheel to activate the phone and say the number I want to call so I don't think it has to do with google. Mary

Yes, my contacts are in gmail. As I noted in the original post, my contacts on my phone are syncing with Google just fine, but even if I add a contact on my phone that is not synced with Google the Prius does not recognize that as a contact.
Really frustrated - this worked flawlessly with my previous Samsung (which was not a Galaxy model).

I too have the ability to speak commands to my phone from the car. It also connects via bluetooth and plays audio files. It's just the contacts that are not working. This means I have to have all my numbers memorized in order to use the voice commands, which I don't.

SueBellew,
I definitely don't want this to become more of a frustration than necessary! I know how important it is to have your phone synced correctly to your car, so that you can use it on the go! Your car manufacturer, Toyota has created a page to assist with syncing your phone to your car. Click the link for more assistance http://toyota.us/1DaJ51c .

FWIW, I have an LG G2, and in my humble opinion, when they produced KK, they RUINED dialing via BT. Simply horrible.
You might try disabling Voice Command.
Reboot your phone. Repair the phone to the car radio.
Now when you click your button to initiate BT dialing, you should hear "Say a Command" and be able to say "Call <contactname>", and it will respond "Do you want to call <contactname> at Home? Select 1". "Do you want to call <contactname> at Mobile? Select 2"... That sort of thing. They you say, "Select 2". Then it asks for confirmation...
OMG.
Really, the people that modified JB just murdered the BT dialing in KK. It works, but it's horrific.
