I had this same problem, and it drove me nuts. But I haven't had it for several months, and I think it got fixed with a Google Maps update. I don't think the problem was ever in the phone; Google screwed up something in Maps that had been working right, and eventually got around to fixing it (in my opinion). Check to make sure you have the latest update to Maps, and that might (might) fix it.

I am in the same situation. Updated to Lollipop and now my S4 GPS doesn't work. I've tried rebooting, wiping the cache, upgrading GoogleMaps, power cycling, changing the location settings, etc. Any suggestions?

After several months I actually got it working again. Not 100% sure what I

did, but I took the back off the phone and removed all the screws. Took out

the camera, lux sensor and speaker and cleaned all the dust out. Made sure

that all the screws were replaced firmly, especially the one on the top

left when looking at the back of the phone (this is where the GPS antenna

is).

Restarted the phone then used GPS Status & Toolbox to reset the AGPS state,

calibrated the accelerometer (tilt/roll) and all of the sudden my phone

gets a GPS lock in 3 seconds instead of 5 mins to never.

Hi Dblackshear,

We want your GPS to work properly at all times! Lets get this resolved. How long after the factory reset did you load your third party applications back to the device? Does your GPS work in any other applications?

Thanks,

the gps does not work in other applications. i've tried it in mapmyrun and googlemaps. it will find my location, but as soon as i need to use it for navigation i get the "gps signal lost" error. i confirmed that i had the most up to date version of both googlemaps and mapmyrun. i even uninstalled/reinstalled both apps on kittkatt and now lollipop.

i've booted into safemode, and it does the same thing in googlemaps.

I am also in the same boat and have tried all the same ideas. GPS doesn't work for anything - weather, maps, Waze, GPS Test, etc.

i have the total protection plan. i contacted asurion and explained my troubleshooting steps and they had me redo some of them. i should be getting a replacement s4 by monday. this is definitely a "thing" with the s4's but samsung hasn't admitted or acknowledged it yet.

we'll see how the replacement phone goes.

Hi Paul.i.archer,

We want your GPS to work properly at all times!  Lets dig a little deeper to make sure that your issue is resolved. What is the current software version on the device? (Go to settings>about phone>software/build version. Has there been any liquid or physical damage to the device?
Please make sure following settings are checked and the device is outdoor (open sky):
1) Toggle GPS from drop down menu (from status bar)
2) Settings -> More -> Location services -> Please make sure below options are checked
1) VZW Location services 2) Standalone GPS services 3) Wi-Fi & mobile network location
3) Settings -> Accounts -> Google -> Location Settings -> Turn ON 'Let Google apps access your location' option.
4) Please make sure Wi-Fi is turned ON on device. No need to connect Wi-Fi to any access point.

Thanks,

This isn't a fix, but when I was having this problem on my S4 (which ultimately disappeared as mysteriously as it had come), I usually found that if I had set a destination in Google Maps and started navigating, and then got  the "GPS signal lost" message, I could just restart (not reset) the phone, and then I would then have GPS for the rest of that trip. Then of course do it all again on the next navigated trip.
