changing device with existing number

I am using one number with really old machine.

I got a new Galaxy Note8. How can I switch my existing number from old to new machine.

The new machine has an usim in it, but not sure if the old machine has one.

Does old machine can use a line without the usim? I know that this old machine cannot use data at all.
