Might terminate my prepaid phone/account--need help.

Greetings,

I've recently purchased a new phone, using a different service provider.  The new phone is now activated and being used.  However, I still have my "old" phone, which is a prepaid being serviced under Verizon.  I am on the fence about getting rid of it, though, as I deal with the new service provider (of which I am coming to find, I am not too keen on).  I've never gotten rid of a prepaid, so with that said, could anyone help guide me as to how one goes about deactivating it?

Because it is a prepaid, is it merely about letting it "fizzle out"?  In other words, do I just not pay any more on it?  When does service sever through Verizon when someone does not pay--a month?  My due date to add anything onto my phone is tomorrow (7/9), as well as the phone is low on money (it alerts me if it falls below five dollars).  I tried perusing my account section, etc., to see if there is anywhere to shut the service down voluntarily, but I didn't see anything.  If I just let it go, this does not affect me in any negative way (being a prepaid, I'd imagine I don't get penalized), right?

Lastly, I assume the phone number would be removed and I would not obtain the same one, should I decide to reactivate the same phone down the road, correct?  Not a big deal; just wanted to cover all bases on questions about this.

Thanks for any help.

All you have to do is let the time expire and then the phone will be canceled. You don't have to do anything. Usually they will allow you to reactive you cell after a certain time its just a few days before they cancel your number.  So don't put any more money on the account and it will automatically cancel itself. You can transfer the new number you just added to your new cell if you cancel your new cell that your not sure your happy with and use that number to port over to verizon. Once your old cell is deactived you will lose that cell number.
