Moto X text to iOS device problems

Me and my brother bought my dad a Moto X in black for Christmas. We helped set up his email addresses and everything else is working fine. The one major problem it is having is that when he sends a text to anyone with an iPhone the iPhone users say they dint receive his text messages and when someone sends him a text he doesn't get them all. We just tried it with my nephew's iPhone 5C and the same thing my brother has an iPhone 5 both have the latest iOS and the Moto X got an update to Android 4.4 KitKat soon after booting it up for the first time. My dad is concerned because people who works with at his job have iPhones. I have a Nokia Lumia 928 and my stepmom has a LG Lucid 2 and text messages between those two phones and the Moto X can be sent and received without a hitch. I know Motorola will say it's Apple and vice versa. I would hate for him to have to exchange the phone for this single issue. The phone was purchases at a verizon corporate store on Christmas Eve. I looked on his Applemaccount and the SMS is not registered to any devices on the account. Happy New Year and thanks in advance for your time.

I repeat - It is not a Moto X or Android problem.  Did you read any of the threads that the above search will bring up?  I've copied some relevent instructions below  Please read:

https://community.verizonwireless.com/message/1016745#1016745

That's where these quotes come from.

- Here are excerpts from that thread:

"You need to un register your IPhone from Itunes. It takes anywhere from a week to 30 days for Apple to recognize that you're no longer an IPhone user.  Tell your friends that's the problem.  Tell them to turn off their imessage till Apple recognize you're not an iPhone user anymore."

- And:

"If you have access to your iPhone 4 you are going to want to go into the phone and turn your iMessaging off,  http://vz.to/1hRAZNz.

If you don’t have access to your iPhone follow the steps below:

Step 1

Go to supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do.

Step 2

Log in with your Apple ID and password.

Step 3

Select the product you need to de-register (your iPhone, for example).

Step 4

Click ‘Unregister’.

Step 5

You’ll see the message ‘Are you sure you want to unregister and delete this product?’ – Click ‘Unregister’ again.

If these steps don't work, I would recommend reaching out to Apple Support to see if they can de-enroll you from iMessaging."

It is most likely an Apple/iMessage problem and not an Android/Motorola one.  Rather than retype loads of information, please read through the advice given to previous questions about android-iphone texting.  Or search google for "android iphone text problems" without the quotes.

Well I had a Samsung Galaxy S III as my last phone and the phone that the Moto X is replacing is an iPhone 4 and I never had any SMS issues between me and my dad and when I moved to my Lumia phone the same was true I never had any issues between me and my brother and as I mentioned in my original post he has an iPhone 5 and he has had iPhones since they first became available on Verizon and he also never had a problem between me and him as well so doing the math I am thinking it's something with the Moto X. The only things I could find on Google were articles about the Sprint version of the phone.

I went to follow those steps last night and his account shows no products to de-register so either he never turned on his iMessage and his iPhone has never been hooked up to a computer to register or sync with iTunes. I remember having to reset it once because it was laggy and had other problems. And I did that through the phone itself. So does this mean Apple started the de-registration process and its not finished? The phone wasn't actually activated until Christmas Day.

I'm out of ideas, but there are more in this thread on Apple's support site.

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5079636?start=0&tstart=0

You may want to wade through this for what worked and didn' t work for others in the same or similar situation.

Bottom line, it's a problem with iPhone users using iMessage to send a message to a former iMessage user who now has an Android phone and not an SMS problem.  iMessage is not a pure SMS texting system, but an Apple proprietary system.

BTW, the Moto X is an excellent phone.  My wife has one and she loves it.

gb755cs, thanks for these details. The issue may be as simple as editing the your mobile number in the iPhone contacts list. In iPhone contact lists, other iPhone numbers are saved as 1-555-555-5555. It's imporant that you edit the contact by removing the 1 in front of the mobile number. Try it and keep us posted.

Is that contact you mentioned added automatically when you activate an iPhone?  I was not there the day he purchased the iPhone 4.  He purchased it when his original Motorola Droid would no longer charge and parts of if were loose and were falling off.  I don't know whether he had Verizon activate it in store or if he had my brother do it for him at home.  Would that number have been included with the Backup Assistant when we backed up his contacts?  As mentioned earlier he uses this phone balanced between work and personal calls so he has quite a few contacts.  We installed the App Store Backup Assistant on the IPhone 4 before activation of the Moto X then Backup Assistant did the restore when setting up the Moto X.  I can look at his contacts when I next see the phone so what would I be looking for to either edit or eliminate?
