iPhone 8 in Ireland/Northern Ireland

Newbie

I will  be using my iPhone 8  within the countries of Ireland and Northern Ireland only, no calling the states. I will be contacting other family members, on their iPhones, within the same countries.

Are the phones unlocked already and all I need to do is choose my travel package from Verizon and buy/install a new sim card upon arrival in Ireland? I understand I will get another number to use and I need to turn off the cellular data on apps I won't be using.

Just checking to reconfirm in advance of my trip. Thanks

The phones are unlocked, first of all-- but this doesn't matter if you are selecting one of the international travel plans from Verizon. In this scenario you don't need a different sim at all and you would use your same number with this plan including calls back to the U.S. and within the country you are in.

The only time you would need an unlocked phone and subsequently a local sim and phone number would be if you don't sign up for an international plan from Verizon and you choose to activate a prepaid or similar plan locally in Ireland when you arrive there.

Your question references your combining the two choices together, when it is really one OR the other....

nkbc,

You've asked some great questions. I hope you have a great time away in beautiful Ireland! Let's chat about your international travel plan options. It's never good to come home from a trip to any surprise charges. We recommend checking out the international travel planner by clicking here http://vz.to/2diw28j You'll be able to see what international plan would work best for your needs. You can add any of the travel plans via your online my Verizon account. I also wanted to pass along this helpful video with some great tips about traveling abroad: http://vz.to/2rWbCeK

Our community member is correct in that the iPhone 8 is unlocked, as all of our 4G devices are not locked. Are you going to be purchasing a SIM card in Ireland? If so, then an international plan with us would not be needed. This is because you would be using a SIM card with an Ireland wireless carrier. Does this part make sense?

Nkbc, traveling is always fun and exciting. Wanting to make sure your device will work is definitely understandable. Lukevinyl, provided great information for your traveling needs. To clarify, are you planning on using an international SIM while you are traveling or are you planning on getting a VZW international plan?

If you are using an international SIM card you will not need to worry about an VZW international plan and visa versa.
