Is Having Onboard Wi-Fi Better Than Travel Pass?

We are traveling to the Caribbean on RC Freedom on the Seas in the next few months.  We are taking only 2 smartphones, no pcs or tablets.  Basically to be used for communication while on board the ship with friends and possibly some texting or video calling to the US if necessary.  We would like to still receive emails also.  Royal Caribbean offers Voom wifi for 2 devices for around $130 for cruise duration, however both phones are enrolled in Travel Pass.

Anyone have experiences or advice as to which way to go?  Phones on airplane mode and use ship wifi for messaging, or leave phones status quo and use Travel pass??

Travelpass does not include cruise ship coverage. You will pay pay as you go rates of $1.79/min voice, 50 cents text sent, and $2050 per GB data.  You will want to use wifi on board and travelpass at your island stops. Make sure each island is covered on travelpass.
