If you have your phone in airplane mode, you are wasting your money on a TravelPass. The TravelPass is for cellular service, which airplane mode disables.

To answer your question though, you can make calls and send/receive texts while on wifi. I recently did it on a cruise ship at sea.

Thank you, Rico.  I understand I don't need TravelPass with wifi, but when I'm out and about, I need the cell service, so I turn airplane mode off during these times (also understanding, as I learned to my dismay while traveling in England, that even if I don't receive or make a call, as soon as the phone connects with the cell tower I am charged $10 for the day).  Now, the second part - do you know if voicemail is available on wifi?

CHUCKA75Q,

How exciting that you'll be taking a trip Internationally, soon. The good news is that you should still be able to send and receive text messages using Wi-Fi while Airplane Mode is on as long as your phone is registered for Wi-Fi Calling prior to leaving the United States. Please keep in mind that the Wifi calling function can vary based on the Wifi Network strength. http://spr.ly/6582Dhb1m.

Voicemail services will work. Others will be able to leave you a voicemail. Keep in mind that some international networks won't let you call your own mobile number. If you can't access your voicemail, use Visual Voicemail or call +1 (845) 613-8700. Here are more links regarding our International Travel features that should prove helpful during your travels, as well as information regarding activation of TravelPass Sessions.
