I've ALREADY installed the beta version of Swype for Android phones; it does NOT work properly on the Thunderbolt when composing SMS messages. I was asking how to install an EVO specific version of the Swype keyboard (if that even exists) onto my Thunderbolt.

does anyone know the answer to this? i REALLY prefer swype, but i finally downloaded it to my tbolt and am having the same problems......no auto spacing between words in SMS messaging, which really makes it useless. it worked great on my incredible. so is there a way to get the EVO version?

install using a file manager like astro or email it to your gmail account and you should be able to open/install it.

Wow, that's really surprising because I had the same exact problem with no spacing between words ONLY in the stock HTC texting application (worked fine everywhere else), and as soon as I installed Handcent, I had no more problem with no spaces between words when texting from inside Handcent. The problem still exists, however, when using the stock HTC texting app included with the Thunderbolt (Swype says that the stock HTC texting app isn't configured properly, and that's why Swype isn't spacing properly there; they say it's up to HTC to correct whatever parameter isn't set properly).

When you installed Handcent, did you long press inside a text box (where you type the SMS text), choose the standard input method, then long press again and choose Swype? If not, try that and see if that helps. Hope you get it worked out as I know how frustrating that can be!

When I installed swype I had the problem with no spaces in SMS.  I followed the above instructions from dmw4814 after installing Handcent and following  his instructions regarding long press inside the text box Swype is working perfectly for me.  I know where the letters are if typing but I am having to stop and think about where I want to swipe but I am having fun trying to learn it.

thx....i was actually refered to an xda thread by another forum member where i was able to get an email that linked me to a version that's works as is (no handcent required). downloaded, installed, and spaces properly! (all black theme too, which is pretty cool)

OK, I seemingly installed it successfully, but now how do I activate swype?

Go to Settings>Language & Keyboard and make sure that Swype is checked.

Then go to a text field (i.e. in text messaging) and long press.  Select Input Method, then select Swype.

Kelly, Skype (video calling and chat) and Swype (word-tracing keyboard) are two different apps.  The OP was asking about Swype, not Skype.  I get these two confused, too, when reading posts sometimes.  :smileyhappy:

I have started using FlexT9 keyboard. It is by far the BEST one I have used. Here's a link, a little expensive but will be the best purchase you've made. .

FlexT9's 4-in-1 keyboard interface enables you to Speak-Trace-Write-Tap input.

FlexT9 powered by Dragon is a four-in-one keyboard experience that puts you in the driver’s seat for communicating how you want – when you want. And only FlexT9 gives you the power to seamlessly switch between the Speak. Trace. Write. Tap. input modes as easily as it is to flip on a light switch! Read on below for a list of supported Android devices and instructions for making FlexT9 your default keyboard.

FlexT9 is available in US and UK English, French, German, Italian and Spanish and supports the following Android OS v2.1 and higher devices: (USA) Verizon Moto Droid X, Moto Droid/Droid 2, Fascinate and Xoom; T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide, myTouch 4G, Nexus One, Nexus S, Vibrant and Dell Streak 7; AT&T Captivate & Nexus One; Sprint Epic, Evo & Galaxy Tab; (Europe): Motorola Milestone and Xoom; HTC Desire, Desire HD, and Desire Z; Samsung Galaxy Si9000 and Galaxy Tab, and Dell Streak 7.

FlexT9 Four-in-One Keyboard At-a-Glance:

• Speak: leverages the power of Dragon Dictation to easily – and reliably - turn talk into text
• Trace: continuous touch input - just glide your finger from one letter to the next
• Write: use your finger to quickly draw anything you would want to type
• Tap: tap, tap, tap on the keyboard old school!

I got this as Amazon's free app of the day sometime last week, never switching back to swype, swiftkey or any others, this one is PERFECT, here's the link:
