Why should I have to pay sales taxes on a phone?

WE paid taxes on the Note 7 that's recalled and is of no fault of our own, why should we pay $55 in taxes again on the Google XL or ANY phone....I certainly would NOT be getting another phone period....my Note 7 doesn't heat up as much as my Note 4 or 5

Because the government charges sales tax on sold goods!!!!!!! You will get your sales tax back from your Note 7.

Even with the Note 7 being recalled, you are still purchasing a new phone, therefore you have a sales tax. That said, you will get your taxes back from the Note 7 in the form of a bill credit.

None of the users complained of a hot phone.  The first sign of trouble was noise and smoke or leaking battery acid.

If you have not received a text from Verizon yet, you can expect one telling you to replace the phone on the line or it will be suspended, will billing until you do.    Verizon isn't fooling around.

Both my wife and I have been receiving those text messages (the one about the recall). Haven't received any about a suspension of the line yet, although today I got my Pixel XL in and activated it. My wife is refusing to pick a new phone until she absolutely has to. So hopefully they suspend her line soon!

AHGGGGGG!  I ordered a Pixel from Google on the 6th.  My delivery date is 11/23-27.   I'm dying here!

How is it? (She said biting tongue resentfully).

Probably not the answer you're looking for but:

It's a good phone, but I really enjoyed the Note 7, so this wasn't an easy transition for me. I really enjoyed Samsung Pay, and am a bit salty over this transition (lol).

However, there is nothing wrong with the phone, it's very smooth, fast, so far seems to have good battery life, set up was easy, and the display is beautiful, so it will be a great phone!

I think I'll warm up to it a bit more after a few days, part of the enjoyment of a new phone, is actually wanting one, and looking forward to it. After this Note 7 incident (I'm already on my second Note 7 due to the initial exchange), I'm just a bit tired of it. The Note 7 had some great features that I really liked, which the Pixel does not; water resistance, wireless charging, etc. I also purchased a Gear VR at a Samsung shop while I was out of town, and am currently fighting to get my $99 back from them (don't think I will).

However, I'm really happy to have the fast updates with the new Pixel phones, and I love the pixel launcher (user interface) so far. Google Assistant is pretty nifty too, as is the 24/7 support feature where you can have a Google Rep call you to assist. So in all aspects, this is a great device, and I think as I get over the Note 7 I'll actually start to enjoy it more.

That said, after I get my sales tax back (for 2 note 7 phones), accessories and such refunded as bill credits, I'll probably be a bit more happy as well.

One of the only things I am concerned about is storage space though. I purchased the 32 GB model when I did my pre-order, because of the big delays on the 128GB models. I don't think I will really need more than 32GBs of space for my use, especially with the offer of free cloud storage for photos and videos taken by the Pixel, but the extra space would have been nice, seeing as the Note 7 had 64GB on board.

Completely agree. I'm more of an iPhone girl but when I was offered the opportunity to get the Pixel to test out and review I jumped on it. I was sent the 32 GB option but would have preferred that there was a 64 GB option available. Would have probably enjoyed the XL more also since I'm used to the larger size of the iPhone Plus model. With all of that being said the Pixel is a solid phone. I've only had it for a couple of days but it has been a fast and smooth interface. Too bad they didn't give me the option for the XL.

I'm bummed for you.  I bought a Note 3 six months after it came out and still have and love the phone.  Hated the Note 4 function, even though the build was better.  Skipped the Note 5.  I missed the s-pen for a while, but got over it.  The Nexus and google phone do speech to text hands free so well.  Never need to tough the phone so what do I need the pen for.  LOL

If this is your first foray into Nexus/google, you are in for a treat.  Rather than redundant "gallery " app, you have all photos stored in google photo.

With the auto backup to google photo you should have enough storage as nothing is permanently on the phone.

And of course the ton of carrier and manufacturer bloat which Sammy is addicted to adding and we can't uninstall.

I ordered the smaller phone.  I prefer to carry a pocket size phone for every day, I keep the Old Note 3 for work.  It's all good.

BTW if you check out the tips and tricks articles you can learn some of the stuff your Pixel will do for you, including split screen.

Thanks for the info. Although this is not actually my first Google phone. I had both the Nexus 6 and 6P (gave 6P to my Grandfather) until I got the Note 7.

I'm familiar with the pure Android, and I like it, but wanted to try something different and my last Samsung phone was the S4, so it had been a while.

Anyways it's a great phone, just miss some of the neat Samsung features (like Samsung pay, Android Pay really can't touch it, Samsung has many promotions and such and works almost everywhere).

But I think I'm going to be pretty happy with the Pixel.

Funnily enough, I gave the 256GB Samsung memory card to a friend with the Droid Maxx 2, seeing as I no longer had a use for it. A couple days later the card suddenly stopped working completely. Have tried it in different phones and my computer, it isn't detected.

I think this will be my last Samsung device for a while, especially with what I'm going through with my Gear VR.
