Ensuring no extra charges such as roaming on cruise

Going on a cruise to the Bahamas.  I'd like to use my phone for quick photos, but don't want to use data, text, or voice.  How to I absolutely ENSURE that I won't be billed for extra roaming charges?  The rest of my family just has feature phones.  Is there anything I need to do on theirs?

Alternative:  Buy another camera and turn off all phones and don't turn them on again until on US soil....

Put the phone into AIRPLANE Mode and leave it that way once you depart from the country. You will be able to take pics and do other things on it - including WiFi (if they make that available to you) - with no roaming charges. I'm not sure, but it's likely that the Bahamas don't even have CDMA service (only Global) in which case the RAZR won't work there anyway, even if Airplane mode is NOT turned on.

honestly what i would do is suspend my line for the time i would be on the cruise that way there is no chance of service

You do NOT want to get hit with any cruise ship charges, they have their own towers and the price is out of this world

I just returned from a 2 week trip to Italy ... I simply (SIMPLY) put my phone in AIRPLANE mode -- that will turn off your CDMA/4G communications .. you will not incur any charges with that turned off ... and again, you can use WiFi if the ship offers it to you ....  they may CHARGE you for THAT, but that would be your decision once on board.

What the other posters are telling you about Airplane Mode is correct.  Per the Razr's manual:

When you select airplane mode, all wireless services are disabled. You can then turn Wi-Fi and/or Bluetooth back on, if permitted by your airline. Other wireless voice and data services (such as calls and text messages) remain off in airplane mode. Emergency calls to your region's emergency number can still be made.

Boy bet that was Fun! i bet you hated coming Back Cody.. And Sally is Correct on Airplane Mode i want to just add when you Disengage from Airplane or Wi-Fi if your Data does not come right back on the 3G or 4G indicator.. Check the Data Manager--> then DATA ENABLE  this setting can sometimes keep itself from engaging an needs some Help to be engaged..b33 Smiley Happy

Thanks, everybody!  I tried Airplane Mode at home last night and it looks like it should work fine (set Airplane Mode on, had someone send a text, turned phone off, turned phone on and made SURE it came up immediately in Airplane mode -- no wifi, no data, no texts received...).

I then tried Airplane mode on my daughters' phones (LG Cosmos Touch).  Their's worked, too, but when restarted, it asked you if you wanted to stay in Airplane mode so if you're not paying attention, you could hit the wrong answer.  Of course, they have no data plans, but I don't even want them to start getting texts.  So, I told them we'll just leave the phones off and in the suitcase.  Now, my husband's phone is just an LG Cosmos, but he has no problem just leaving it off -- even in normal circumstances when I WANT him to have it on!

Oh...and I went and bought a camera, too, we really needed one anyway...hey, it's just $200 insurance and my daughter is thrilled because it's purple.

Thanks again for the very quick and helpful answers!
