battery life

I would really like to get a smartphone, but there have been so many comments on the poor battery life I wonder how useful it is as an actual phone.  LIke we hope to plan a disney vacation.  Will the battery life last through a day at Disney (say 7 am - 11 pm), or will I be stuck with a dead phone by evening???  Assuming I would want to take photos through out the day also.

I think in order for you to get it to last that long, you would have to turn off everything. No background data, live wallpaper, bluetooth, gps, wifi, etc.

The wall charger isn't that big. Why not just pack it in with your clothing? This way, you can charge it when you need to. As far as lasting as long as you stated, probably, but why chance it? When you go for lunch, just run back to your hotel room and plug it in. Then retrieve it when you're through eating.

I could charge it at the end of the day no problem, I am just wondering if it would last the whole day without a charge.  How would I charge it at the park?

You might also think about getting an extended battery. They should last all day. But I too advise about turning off some of the automatic apps, such as synch email, live wallpaper, etc.

Thank you all so much.  What is your opinion on the universal portable power pack?

Get an extended battery.  My Droid 2 Global lasts all day with moderate to heavy use.  Also Zagg sells a portable power pack called the Sparq 2.  A bit pricey at $100, but looks nice for extended field trips.  I've considered it, but haven't bitten yet.
