Verizon probably has to help...

Hello, my friend gave me his old droid x and it had a whole bunch of mature stuff on it so i figured i'd just factory reset to clear all of the data so i did that. After that process was over i was told i had to a call a number to activate the phone, i don't want to activate it i just want to use it as like an mp3 player, or something. I've read in other posts that there is a number you can enter to just go to the home screen or something, maybe there is something like that for this phone or am i just different?
