The tone does not match any tone that any of the buttons or keypad makes that could possibly be open during my phone calls.

Try downloading Z-DeviceTest and test the Proximity Sensor, just activate test and plase finger over right corner of the ear speaker and the readout should show a distance change, mine shows 3000 in distance when I cover sensor...

Well that verifies its not a bad Proximity sensor.. So I would agree with the others reports that you may be unconsciously face dialing, I have learned that the sensor can be a bit responsive with the phone being positioned on face a curtain way, maybe this is you situation, if you test it on speaker phone or Bluetooth and do not have it happen this has to be the situation.

Except that if the proximity sensor is working that means that the touch screen is disabled and so theres no way it could be from an errant push of a button. I'm sorry but this isn't my first time using a cell phone.

UPDATE:
I can now confirm that it also happens when using speakerphone. So any further ideas are appreciated. Thanks.

But I assure you, Wildman is one guy that makes no assumptions about your abilities or history with phones. He simply lays out a set of troubleshooting procedures that you can accept or ignore. He never alluded to anything regarding how many times you have used a phone. I can't say for certain, but my guess is that the interest in helping you disappeared with that remark.
Regardless, good luck,

Your guesses aren't of interest of me nor is your opinion of my issue. If you have nothing substantive to add you needn't bother posting. Thank you.

And Ill thank you to not tell me what to do.
Regardless of your oh-so-charming response, I still wish you well in the search for a solution to your issue.
