Motorola DROID X Review – Why it is the most annoying phone ever! Is it Just me?
WealthPowerTeam

I have been using smart phones since 2005. Initially, it was we could have the phone but did not have to have the data plan options to use the phone. From what I know it is almost impossible to have a smart phone without a data plan. If you do know of a company or phone that has this option available please let me know. Now if you want to enjoy the smart phone you have to pay price for it as well. So you want to ensure that you get the value for what you pay. Not in the case of Droid X.

Now to our conversation on Droid X, why it is the most annoying phone ever, here I said it again. I am typically a very positive attitude person but this phone tested me so here it is.

First of all there is not a single feature on this phone that actually works the way a user would normally expect it to. So what does it say about the company? They made the phone with no consideration to usability aspect of the phone. I am very sure they wanted to get the phone out because IPhone is winning the game all over. Please if you disagree with any of points I would love you to share with me so I am not living in the dark and making false statements. This is what I know and I have done research on Google as well as spoken with the Verizon reps to find some solutions to the problems I am documenting.

I am going to list down the things that the most annoying things about DROID X. I will also list down the things I do like about the phone to be fair (even though fair is very relevant word)

  1. Camera: The camera functions and feature sucks in every aspect. Even though it is supposed to be 8MB my IPhone with 2 MB Pixels takes much better and sharper pictures than the DROID X. The button to click the picture with is so hard to press that many times you think you have taken the picture but it has not.
  2. Email: Ok I may be biased to IPhone but if you would look at the way IPhone has implemented the feature or email reading you can easily navigate through the emails. Here to read an email I have at least make 2-4 mistakes almost every time to get through my emails. Also by default the images are disabled to show in the email and every time I want to read the email I have click display images. I have not seen anywhere there is a setting to change this option.
  3. Address, Phone, Web Addresses in an Email: I have used Droid X enough to know it more than enough annoying. It does not recognize between a phone number or a zip code or a URL or any other number. If it sees it’s a number whether it is 1 digit or more it thinks it’s a phone number period. If you have any address and want to navigate to the address, I have almost 90% of the times failed for it to take me to the actual directions. I have to manually enter the address all over again. On top of this if there a website address on the page/email it does not even recognize that many times and I am stuck.
  4. No Copy and Paste Feature: How can you not have a copy and paste feature??? It just blows my mind. IPhone had the same problem and they fixed it 2 years ago, where is DROID X, is it still living in the stone ages?
  5. Navigation: It just sucks the life out of the battery. That’s all I am going to say about this.
  6. Navigating through emails: The navigation of phone is just ridiculous. There is no simple and direct way to understand what to find what. You have to click through so many hoops to get to where you want to go and by the time you reach there you wonder why I am even here.
  7. Touch Screen: Most difficult touch screen functionality. I have seen other phones and they just work. On this phone I am not sure when it is going to work and when not.
  8. Phone Heats up like crazy: I actually took the phone back to Verizon Store for the problem. They said they will change the phone and I had to wait for 12 days for the phone to come. When it came and I wanted to transfer my information, I could not. Read on…
  9. No Direct way to backup or sync your phone: On the previous phone I had already uploaded all my media files, all my contacts and everything and it took me almost 8 hours because first I had to find out how to even get the information on the phone and when I did find out, I realized it has to convert the format and it does while it is syncing one item at a time, talk about saving time. I have a 64 bit operating system and the Verizon media manager is only available for 32 bit so I am out of luck there to use their own software to sync. I later found out that I can use windows media player to sync content. I have had 3 or 4 smart phones before and every phone I had, had the feature to back up. But not this Phone. I have to manually transfer everything every time I have to change the phone or reset it.
  10. Apps: OK, I am coming from IPhone so I should not compare this feature to number of apps at all, but I do want to share that the Quality of the apps that are available on the DROID platform just suck in comparison to Iphone. There is literally a heaven and hell difference. I mean it, prove me wrong please.
  11. Notifications of Text Messages: The MOST ANNOYING feature of all, there is no way for anyone to know if there is a text message you have received unless and until you pick up the phone and happen to see the icon on the top. It beeps once and most of the times it is the same beeps as anything else and you happen to just ignore it.

As I started writing this article, I didn't realize the list was going to be so long, I actually just scratched the surface. I have many items to write about but I will not. Let me know if you disagree with me on anything.

Let me share some of the things I do like about this phone.

  1. Voice Recognition: I love this feature because I can type almost anywhere in this phone using the voice feature. It is a problem in the noisy environment but we can always overcome that.
  2. Bigger Screen: I like that fact that it has a much bigger screen compared to the IPhone.
  3. The Social Media integration feature: I like the fact that they integrated the social media well with your contacts but there are certain things that I do not like at all and I will share probably in another article.
  4. I am really sorry but I have to really dig to find out what I really about the phone.

I have met three people who have the DROID X and all three of them are just purely annoyed. I was in fact reading an article the other day on Forbes how one of authors was so annoyed with it as well. I just wish I could take the phone back to Verizon and get a different phone. I have passed my 30 days.

If anyone disagrees with me, I would love to hear your thoughts and comments.

If you feel it's the most annoying phone ever, then why not return it for another smart phone that you prefer?

Just sayin ....

I am just going to say a couple of things.

1. I don't have a problem with finding emails, although I would like the ability to copy and past from a forwarded message or something of that nature but I have found a work around for that... not a huge deal.

2. The text message alerts...you can change them!  You can add vibration even.  And if you want to customize the ringtone for your Text Messages so they are different from everything else you can always download Handcent.  It's a free messaging app from the market and extremely customizable.  I have had no complaints from anyone on this.

3. There are numerous apps on the market that will back up all the data on your phone onto your 16 gb microSD card...that way when you get the new phone you swap the SD cards and you are all set.

4.  Navigation IS going to drain your battery because your screen is on the entire time.  A good thing to do is keep a car charger for your phone in the car for when you use the Navigation, and try to make sure the phone is pretty well charged and not almost dead when you start using the navigation.  If the phone is just about dead the car charger can't keep up.

5.  This touch screen is one of the best I have ever used.  I like it better than even the iphone touch screen.  I haven't had any problems with it recognizing touch.  Do you have a screen protector on the phone? If you do that could be causing the touch problems AND you don't need it!  It's gorilla glass, a screen protector is not necessary at all.

6.  The phone will head up if heavily used, but then again I have had that happen with multiple different brands of phones.  If you use it constantly it will heat up.  It's never gotten to the point of burning me though.

7. Not ALL of the apps are crap.  YES there are some crappy apps out there, however that is what reviews and star ratings are for.  Do your research before you download and read more than two of the comments and you will know if what you are getting is decent or not.

I think that's all I needed to comment on.  If you have any other issues or questions feel free to visit the Motorola Owner's forum, it's a place to ask questions and get helpful answers from other Motorola Owner's! Smiley Happy

Okay, a couple of quick and dirty points (the best kind, in my opinion, but that's another topic...:smileyhappy:

The phone that's annoying the cheap outta you sounds more like the Samsung Omnia II than a Droid X. You really need to double-check this.

Actually, just skip the first point and get your iphone back. That's plainly what you want, which is fine.

I've had the same Droid X since day one. Absolutely, positively not the phone you are describing.

After coming from a BB to a DX I can say that the DX is not perfect. It does need a good deal of refinement, but it has so much potential. BB and the Iphone are more polished but they have a head start. This will come for the Droid.

It's just YOU!!  Ive had my Droid X for well over a month now and I absolutely love it. There is no issue as far as email navigation.  Nor with the Camera.  My phone vibrates when a get a txt or a call when it is in the vibrate mode or is rings when supposed to. Ive had a BB before and the DROID X is the best phone I had.  I have a few friends with the Iphone and they are not as happy with their phone as I am with mine.  They cant wait to end their contract with AT&T so they can get a DROID.  So again....IT's YOU

"Blackberry" and "polished"...possibly the best oxymoron I've ever run across.

IPhones, as is the case with most Apple hardware, are slick stuff. But they need to be on a network that, well, works.

I've been in the computer tech business since the 70's ... I can only tell you that every hardware has it's issues. It's a matter of whether there are workarounds/solutions, or if they really are so annoying that you want to move to some other platform. I know for a FACT that the Verizon NETWORK runs circles around AT&T - I have been in the car with friends with AT&T .. aears they cannot get a signal AT ALL, and I have 3 BARS - and lend them MY phone to make a call. (Let's not forget the latest iPhone fiasco with the antennae 'thing'.)

That all being said, yes, there are Apple "**bleep**" who refuse - REFUSE - to see any potential benefit in other hardware. Personally I can appreciate ALL hardware/software for what it is. Yea, there's some very cool stuff on the iPhone ..... but there's ALSO very cool stuff on the DROID platform; and getting better by the day ...  so to just refuse to at least acknowledge  that there is cool stuff on BOTH sides is just short-sided ...  after that it just all comes down to successful Calling abilities .... IMHO.

+1, I agree, BB is far from perfect and the iPhone has its plus and minues and still isnt perfect.. The phone hasne changed for4 generation, it takes more than a case change and a few simply features change to make a merit saling me the same thing oer and over again...

As for the Droid X, its not perfect (NOTHING IS) but I am very happy with my device... Besides no matter what a company does, there is always someone that will see fault in it somewhere, usually because they keep comparing it to something else instead accepting its design and concept, if everything was created the same, what would be the reason to sale it?
