The EXACT same thing happens to me. I thought I was crazy, but now I know I'm not. I hate the "mute problem", and the dropped calls are just crazy. I've never had a problem with dropped calls. EVER. Since I got the Motorola Droid, I've had nothing BUT dropped calls. I cannot make phone calls unless I'm at least 5 miles from my house. I didn't have a problem with this on EITHER of my Blackberrys. I've done a battery pull. I've called *228 and selected option 1, then 2. Nothing works! I HATE this phone and would not recommend it to ANYONE. If you want a smartphone that you can actually use as a PHONE, get a Blackberry.

I feel your pain. I ended up getting the Screen Suite app and my muted and dropped calls are gone. Well my muted calls are completely gone and my dropped calls are limited to the same places I have always dropped calls with my previous cell phones. Please try the Screen Suite app.

My Droid drops calls all of the time, also. Almost every call I get is dropped within a minute or so. I don't use it very often for voice calls because of this. The sad thing is that pretty well no one who calls me will consider buying a Droid!
I took it in for service once and they did a hard reset and told me to give it another try. I have done the *228 thing a couple of times. I did it again today after reading this thread.
I really like having a smart phone, but I don't like not really having a phone phone.

If the phone doesn't work at your house and you need it at your house you can only return it or buy a network extender..
I would go with a feature phone if signal is an issue and important to you
