today it was recommended to update my mobile Skype application which completed successfully ...
After that I noticed that it added a notification icon 'S' in notification bar which notifies that I'm logged into Skype. Obviously when I log-out this icon disappears.
Does anybody know how to hide this notification icon?

I can't find a way to hide it, but I would like to hide it also. I understand how someone might want to see it to know that you are logged in but to have it there all the time especially on the left side is really dumb when you expect notifications to come and go there. I can't beleave they did not give an option to hide it.
Verizon or Skype if you are listening please add an option to hide it. I when they force you into things like this.
I guess Google and Android does a lot of that.
Do you mean the UPDATE NOTIFICATION? or the Skye App in the Drawer? If you're talking in the App Drawer, there a various Screen APPs that can "hide" it ... one I know of is Launcher Pro .. but it will change your default Moto Blur Dock to a new kind of Dock; which frankly works better for me and many others.
Sorry to say, as it stands right now, there is no way you can hide any icon located in the notification bar, short of deleting the item. This holds true for all the Droids, not just the X.
