D2G No Sim message

Got my D2G  a couple days ago and made a few changes to the settings to conserve battery life since it dies so quickly. I changed from global to CDMA (as I read this in a few post about battery life) and my phone shows that there is no sim card. I can't switch back to global either as it says that there is no sim card inserted, yet the sim is still in the phone. Does VZ have to unlock the sim card again or can I stay at CDMA and still get the coverage that I need in the U.S.

The SIM card isn't needed (and in fact cannot be used) in the US, so in general you should be fine.

But, it looks like "something is wrong" (technical term!) if you are getting a No Sim Card message when there is a SIM card, so verify that you can in fact make calls and use data.  Did you see this message before switching from Global?

I would also try removing and reinserting the SIM card to see if the message goes away.

But if you can make calls and/or use data, you don't need to worry when in the US, even if the message doesn't go away.

Re unlocking: did you get Verizon to unlock the phone (meaning you can place a different SIM card in the phone)?  This needs only to be done once.  The other thing Verizon can do is to activate that SIM for use abroad.   But even if neither of these things are done, if there is a SIM card in the phone, you shouldn't get the No Sim message!

THe phone has become possessed, likes to reboot on its own. Sometimes the sim is recognized when it reboots and automatically goes into global mode on its own. Other times it will reboot on its own and not recognize the sim card. I have no issues with calls and data either way, its just annoying to have the thing reboot on its own. I have noticed only a few reboots a day. I usually reboot the device manually everyday, but the rebooting on its own is a pain. Just about ready to go to a VZ store.

Chevyman, I am now having this same problem with a Droid Pro -- did you get it resolved? Phone seems to work fine, but the rebooting is rather mistifying w/ the new, NO SIM CARD message. Started out with an "Invalid SIM Card" message, fyi.

I too get the same thing! It just started all on it's own... "VERIZON WIRELESS/NO SIM CARD". Also has been rebooting on it's own for about a week!

Hi Mungy11! I own a Droid 2 Global and have just tried to duplicate this by changing my network settings from "Global" to "CDMA", but I still show an active SIM card. I would like very much to help you with your device. Can you please check the software version on your device? To check it, go to Settings>About Phone> Android Version. Once you get that, please post here. Thanks!

Hey Grandpa777! I recommend checking to see if you have any updates. Please go to Menu>Settings>About Phone>System Updates. It should tell you if you have any updates available.

DionM_VZW,

I have checked for updates multiple times over the past few weeks and there is nothing available.

I guess I'll be taking the phone into the Verizon store.

Thanks pretty humorous, DionM_VZW, that you don't know that we're all clamoring for an update to Android 2.2, but that Motorola or Verizon can't get us that update.

Why do you tell people to check for an update when you should know that the one that may solve client's problems is being held up by Verizon?
