i just purchased a blackberry curve i was wondering what are sms and are they free to use with the unlimited data plan?
It technically means short message service but is just a fancy name for txt message. They are not included in your data plan as they need to have an additional plan to get x amount for free per month. Otherwise, they run $.20 per message sent and received. Plans start at $5 for 250 to $20 for 5000 with unlimited VZW mobile to mobile.
You can add one of the following text message packages to your account to avoid charges of $.20 per sent/received text message.
(message amount includes sent/received)
250 messages $5 a month
500 messages+unlimited Mobile to Mobile $10 a month
1500 messages+unlimited Mobile to Mobile $15 a month
5000 messages+unlimited Mobile to Mobile $20 a month
*overage is $.10 per sent/received message

hey MorganB....The messaging plans changed. There is no longer a 1500 messaging plan.
Correct TheGreatOne! The $15 message package was inactive 02/01/10. Must be grandfathered in to have the plan.
