do you need to manually enter your entire contact list?

I had too...and it painstakingly took FOREVER--Name, phone number, email address.....It was especially difficult because the keyboard is so different---I wasn't used to it.  I think Verizon MIGHT have the capability to electronically do it--I know Alltel does--but they didn't say anything about it when I bought it.

Take both phones to a Verizon store.  They have the capabilities to transfer the contact list over.  They did that for me when I purchased a BlackBerry Curve.  Once you have it on your BlackBerry, you can sync the BB with MS Outlook and you won't have a problem in the future if you switch to another BB device.

You should also be able to simply import your Outlook contact list over to the phone without a second phone via data transfer.
