Your Blackberry...Is It At Risk?

Leader

Hi, all,

I just read an interesting article in Verizon's Small Biz Blog at http://community.vzw.com/t5/Small-Biz-Blog/Smartphone-Spyware-Fears-Generally-Unfounded-But-It-s-Alw... concerning Smartphones such as the Blackberry and the risk of getting viruses on your device.  It sure makes you think.  Head on over and check it out.  I know for one, I use Symantec's Norton 360 on my desktop, but I have never thought seriously about my Blackberry Tour.

One thing that is somewhat concerning about the virus/spyware issue currently is that in the last quarter, 89% of these issues were delivered either by adobe or java exploits.  In the Blackberry world, the java part of the last sentence is what is scary.  Since Blackberries are java based, there is more potential for the infections in the future.

Now blackberries are not the only possible device to be infected.  It was somewhat wide known that the first generation iPhone could be taken complete control over if it was in the same wireless range as a computer that could attack it!  Pretty scary.  There are lots of main stream anti-virus products out there that are now also focusing on smart phone protection but I personally do not know of anyone that uses it yet.

So really the question is, when do people seriously look at getting AV for their phone?  Soon or too late.

The paid version of SmrtGuard was just updated to version 2.24.  On top of its other great features it now includes Anti-Virus and Anti-Spam software.  The app can be setup to scan your BlackBerry daily, weekly or monthly for viruses. If you keep a lot of personal or work information on your BB, I think this a got to have app.

I'd suggest getting Kaspersky Mobile Security.

Anti-Theft

Read more about Anti-Theft >>

Codificación

Give sensitive information on your phone an extra level of security. Choose the folders on your smartphone that you want to encrypt and password-protect. Even if the folder is located on a memory card, it cannot be accessed from another phone or computer without the correct password.

Anti-Spam

Are trivial calls or messages distracting you at inopportune moments? Choose which contacts you want to accept calls and messages from. Anti-Spam can run in whitelist mode (only accepting calls and messages from specified contacts) or in blacklist mode (accepting calls and messages from all numbers except those on the list).

Control parental

When installed on a child's mobile, Kaspersky Mobile Security can block outgoing calls or SMSs to undesirable numbers, including premium rate services. GPS Find allows you to pinpoint exactly where your child is at any time of the day or night.

Anti-Malware Protection and Firewall

Kaspersky Mobile Security provides everything you need to keep your smartphone protected: realtime protection from malware, on-demand or scheduled antivirus scans, automatic updates over-the-air, and blocking of dangerous network connections in line with a predefined security level.
