Wireless Updates

I know there aren't any official software updates for the Storm 9550, but when I click "Check for Updates", I get the following message: "Requesting new updates has been disabled by your administrator."  Anyone know how to change that?  I check for updates via Desktop Manager, but I was curious about why this was disabled.  It worked on my 9530.

Are you on a Corp. account? BES?

Nope, just your standard BIS user.

Are you trying to update from your actual phone, instead of Desktop Mgr?

Another question: is this a phone you bought from a 3rd party, e.g., eBay or a private sale, as vs. from a Verizon store?  If so, it may be a phone that USED to be on a corporate BES.  May be a good idea, if so, to wipe it and reinstall the OS with the VZW downloaded OS?

@LCromwell: Yes, I update via the Desktop Manager, but tried to access it via the handset as well.

@Geocritter: Yes, this was purchased via eBay, but it was my understanding this was a BIS handset, not a BES.  If I can't update via the phone, it's really not a big deal.  I was just curious why I couldn't get this to work.

Hard to say what's going on; somebody might have misinformed the seller, who knows.

It all depends on how much of a geek you are :smileywink: and how much it's worth the effort.  I'd go nuts, personally.  I'd have to take BBSAK, wipe the thing, download the os and install from VZW on my 'puter, then reinstall the OS.  Then put my stuff back on.  :smileyvery-happy:  But then again...that's just me.  I'm a little nuts sometimes.
