I would have to say that for the most part...my 5.0 upgrade has been pretty smooth.  However i have encountered a few bugs such as:

(1) When i restart my phone two screens pop up with messages that say:

Uncaught exception: java.lang.Error

Uncaught exception: java.lang.NullPointerException

I have no idea what this is pertaining to.  If anyone does i would appreciate the help.

(2) My facebook app and my Blackberry messager are not working.  I download and install them but the icons are no where to be found.  I go to applications in the options...they say they are there but i cant run them.  Also the icons are not hidden.

(3) The icon/ options to run/get into my email settings from the settings menu is not available.

Other than that, i would say that i love the new upgrade.  The scrolling is more "flick" oriented, my browser is lightning fast, and i seem to have a good amount of signal wherever  i  go.  Threaded SMS is kind of lame, but not that bad. The new interface is nice. The menu's are lot more involved and seem to have been renovated.

I updated through BB desktop manager...i am thinking about going back to 4.7 and trying to download the new update from verizon directly from their site seeing as how they just decided to PIN me letting me know this morning that the update is ready.

Got a buddy with the same issues as you...java errors after reboot and facebook not showing up after installation.  My suggestion is a clean wipe and reinstall of the OS 5.0.

How do i do a clean wipe???

I'd like to add to the frustration of the Storm.  My wife just ordered one a few days ago, and we got it today and it has been nothing but problems.  FREEZES constantly from the moment she took it out of the box, so whoever wants to add comments about application memory leaks and no memory.. don't even start.

We couldn't even go through the initial setup wizard stuff, let alone activate the phone within 1 hour.  From the moment we took it out of the box and put the battery in, the phone froze.  I would say that R.I.M.  has some serious explaining to do for some shoddy Quality Assurance work on this new version of the phone.. or the hardware behind it.

/ end rant.

Ahhh moment you took it out of the box? You didn't charge the battery up first?

I used the BB Desktop Manager to synch my Storm and it automatically updated to 5.0.

I had no problem with the upgrade. All data was there.

I love how the update works. Faster, cleaner, snappier.

2 issues that I do have.

1) the headphones do not work when listening to music.

2) the backlight dims even though I have it set to not automatically dim.

The problem with the headphones is particularly troubling as I listen to music every day,

If anyone has a solution I'd appreciate it.

Storm update 5.0.0.328 Killed my phone and all information

While updating  my phone to this new and improved update, the phone just went black.  I took it down to the local Verizon store who informed me they couldn't retrieve ANY information off it.  NO contacts, nothing.

They then tried to give me one of their "off the floor models" to replace it with. I am VERY upset with this.  If you've ever had a "like new" phone, you know they don't last.  I have never had to have one, but I have three sons and a close friend that has.  All three of their "like new" phone have never worked as they should.

Well, it killed my phone.  So far I've spent an hour before work at our local store, (which no one uses or knows anything about the Storm) and a couple of hours after work on the thing.  The local store happened to inform me all was lost, everything.  And since I have never learned how to back it up....  You get the picture.  I'm not very happy with the system,  either the phones or verizon's!

You never learned to "backup" the Storm, and no one in the store knows about the Storm? Did you buy the Storm from one of "authorized dealers?" The Storm suppose to have come with a CD with Blackberry Desktop Manager program, and in it the program, the option to "backup and restore" your Storm in case "something" happens.:smileysurprised:

Every time I try to update to 5.0 I keep getting an error message that desktop manager failed to update my blackberry and on my phone there is a "reload software: 507" message. My phone became unusable after I disconnected it. Am I doing something wrong?

As crazy as it is to believe, the phone froze during charging.. and it didn't charge at all.   Even with the phone turned off, and plugged into the charger for 6 hours it didnt charge.

Even more crazy, is that my wife took it to a Verizon store and the guy took out the battery, put it back in to restart the OS and said thats all he could do.

But luckily she did get a new one after a visit to a  _different_  Verizon store.

It's nice to know that I wasn't the only one having problems with this **bleep** update:manmad:, I have gotten to the point that my Storm is usable, but it's still missing a lot of apps I originally had, not to mention the only way of possibly getting them back without just waiting and randomly finding the downloader on my main menu again

I have also just found out they locked down the charge source compatibility (using other sources to charge other than the approved wall/car charger), that was one feature I really liked about the blackberry over the MotoRAZR I had before it, I had to use an approved charger with my RAZR, meaning I would have problems charging it over the USB port on my Wii or cable DVR, since I got the blackberry, I have charged it on my Wii most of the time, and ever since I have gotten the message saying my Wii (USB power source) could no longer charge it (it said that there was insufficient power or something), I was very unhappy, it still seems to charge, but it takes a while before it notices it can charge over the USB connection, taking that much longer to charge it

I have had problems with my previous firmware and find the update to be reliable so far to say the least (at least on my blackberry), but the reliability wasn't worth the unreliable and potentially damaging update process, and missing apps I may never get back

Comon Verizon, check the reliability of the updates before releasing them, this is enough to make me switch to AT&T just for the iPhone, at least I know I can trust Apple
