KEYPAD PROBLEM ON STORM

First of all let me start off by saying the Technical folks at the Canton, GA Verizon store have been exceptional with this problem, especially Elena who has worked with me on a consistent basis to eliminate the problem.  I am on my 4th Storm and believe I will have a 5th very soon.  If I make a call to a business which has an IBR (that is what the tech folks refer to when you have to Press 1, 2 etc, etc, etc,) when I tap the keypad button to bring up the keypad I get some symbols where the numbers should be and the # 1 is where the nine would normally be.  In the the past, it will eventually happen when I even want the keypad to the dial a number which is not on my contact list.  This has happened on 3 of the original Storms and now Verizon has given me a Storm 2.  I like the Storm very much--but I am ready to throw in the towel on this one and on Blackberry as well.  Even Blackberry does not have an answer!   HELP--HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM?!?

I just got my 3rd Storm yesterday!  Its my 3rd one in 6 months.  I too have had keypad problems such as them not working or I will push a button and something different will pop up like I might want to text but my camera comes on, etc.  Yesterday my phone had no service and that started the previous night.. then by the time I got to the store, it just wouldnt turn on anymore.  I really like this phone but since I have been with Verizon about 2 years now I have gone thru 3 Envy's, 2 or 3 Voyagers and now 3 Storms.   I have had absolutely no luck with their phones and I am half tempted to go back to my previous carrier but I really do like the phones Verizon has.  I hope I dont have to keep doing this.  If I have to go thru one more Storm Verizon is going to have to do something for me b/c this is ridiculous.  Hope your issues with your phone gets resolved.

You are not the only one!

If im having to enter numbers on the keypad during a call for an automated service sometimes the one will stay held down or the 7 or i if push a number a different number will pop up...It is very annoying :smileysad:

I love my storm since it does everything i need to, however im seriously considering switching to a droid or the eris...not sure how much better those will be but the droid has a keyboard..but the buttons are super small...so i dunno what i will do..i've been thinking an iphone but then i would have to switch carriers which i really do not want to do..and the fact ive never even tried an iphone just heard good things...

What Operating System is installed on your STORM? 328 or 419? I have .328 S1 and no problems except screen dimming and in landscape mode, home screen, I cannot get keyboard to open, which I could before the upgrade. I suspect it is some app that is causing your problem. I would back up phone and one at a time go in and remove each app and try phone number pad again until it works. Or reinstall .328 thru desktop mgr.

I found this on another site and thought it might be helpful.

  1. Press Options on the home screen.
  2. From the list select Language and Text Input.
  3. Select English, NOT English (United States).
  4. Press the menu button and press Save. Now, press the phone button on your phone; you should be able to dial normally.

Yes indeed, I am about to make my 6th trip in 2 weeks to the Verizon Store. I have the first Storm. I am on my 3rd phone and the problem is still there after the reps at 2 stores try and work on this and other problems, the problems still exist. Give me a break, yesterday a rep took my phone in the back area of the store and said she had a fix for the battery problem that I was having.  She said they just received an email telling them to put a small plastic disc shim into the phone to tighten the battery. The phone keeps powering itself off in the middle of calls and then rebooting itself. After reboot is complete the battery is completely dead after being charged all night. Also having problems with the touch screen. Anyone else out there with me. After 6 trips and no solution maybe we should all get together about this problem. I am a widow and live on a fixed income and do not have the time or money to be making a trip every day to the Verizon stores. Why can't they just do the right thing and give us another smartphone that is comparable to the Storm. Or let us out of the contracts with no charge so we can go to another provider, maybe one that has the answers and stop giving all of us the runaround. What do you all think?

Hey there,

I use to live in Canton, GA. about 6 yrs ago. Yes they were very nice in the Verizon there. I bet Canton has grown since I was last there. Hope we get these problems resolved with different phones or to be released from our contracts. What do you think?

I need to know what OS you have installed on your S1 and what apps. you have installed on it.

I have had my S1 since August and only had one exchange for a bad mike in it. Do you know how to clear the memory? If you have no memory left the phone will do all kinds of weird things.

Yes Yes Yes I can't even enter my password right and when I do it will send before I get it done and cause an error. Why do I got to keep hitting the #  (1,2,3,) button for every number. Why doesn't it just stay there until I tell it to .NOW, my touch keypad doesn't even work. DUMBPHONE. I think the Blackberry 9530 Storm is a piece of Junk. I'm an electronics design engineer for 37 years and I've never seen such junk. The keypad on mine is erratic at best. That's after I finnally got the 5.0 download into the phone. I spent 2 months trying to get it done. They need to admit that the Storm is a failure and let people that are disatified trade to something else. They must have problems with the keypad on them, look at all the hits on this site. WOW.
