Freeing up Memory

Would there be any advantage if I moved all the ringtones that come with the phone to the SD card?  Would they show up in both places if I had to restore from a back up? Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

I finally found a way to do this and it saves a ton of memory. It is explained at http://www.nathanix.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=10. In summary, you install the rar file that contains all the default ringtones to you memory card in the ringtone folder. Someone went to the trouble of converting all the ringtones to mp3 and mid files. You can then delete the net_rim_bb_medialoader_ringtones_8330.cod file using BlackBerry Swiss Army Knife. You have to go back into your profiles and select the tones you want for your different alerts and notifications. It is worth the effort in the free memory you save.

It is easy to do, but my questions were: would it free up memory & would they show up in both places if I restored from a backup.

To move files from BB memory to your SD card download BeamExplorer (free).  It gives you the option to choose multiple files and copy them to the SD card.  You can then use MaxMem @ www.berrycoder.com to delete default ringtones.  Hopes this helps.

I tried to copy a few of the default ringtones with BeamExplorer & although it copied them into the SD Card ringtones, it wouldn't play them.  You can still delete them using MaxMem to free up memory.

The SD card is really for storage only.  This is a big issue that allot of folks wish RIM would change. If you could run apps off the the SD card it would eliminate the app memory problems since everything runs from it, the OS,apps, etc.
