My BlackBerry Curve 8530 Overheated

My BB Curve 8530 (bought in June) overheated yesterday and hasn't worked at all. Is it the phone or the battery?? Also, will I have to get a Curve replacement or could I get a Bold? What do I do to get a replacement that is covered by Verizon?? I dont want to have this problem again… Thanks!

The same thing just happened to my son's 8530 last week.  We had to call customer service for a replacement.  There is no way to troubleshoot the problem since the phone won't turn on.  The battery got so hot that he could barely hold it.  Make sure  that you document all of your phone calls with CS, since it will take you several calls to get what you need.  Verizon didn't give me a hard time about this either but I was told that this was the first time that they heard of such a thing happening.  Hopefully you have your contacts backed up and all of your pictures on a memory card.  Let me know how things go.

Mine just overheated today, this is my fourth curve.

The first one the track pad went out, the second one overheated, the third one the screen went white with a bunch of colored lines through it and the fourth overheated today.

Went in to the store and they recommended i call customer service, i did and they are sending me a bold, hopefully this model will be better.

 

I have been to several Verizon stores and they all have said that the overheating is a common problem with the curve.

This issue of overheating was resolved with the implementation of the 5.0.0 Release 1596 (Platform 4.2.0.422/Applications 5.0.0.973) software. Since the OP's device does not power on in order to allow the upgrade, it would be replaceable under the specifications of the manufacturer's warranty, up to one year after the purchase date.
