How do I activate my phone?

I entered the new phone online because the "2?? option 1" could not "find the number".  But I still cannot activate it because the 2?? opt1 still cannot find the number.  I hope this is not too cryptic a request for help.?

Do you mean *228, option 1?  What phone are you trying to activate?  Do you have an existing account and phone number with Verizon?

A few more details would help - is this phone replacing an existing phone?  New phone service?  What model phone is it?
