Does anyone experiencing a poor reception/signal after an upgrade to a new device?

I noticed that people are complaining about a poor signal/bad reception after ‘upgrade’ to a new phone. I also experienced a bad reception on my new phone.

I wrote the below in different discussion:

Weird. Interesting. Why do we suddenly having a problem with a signal? After an upgrade to a new phone I expected that I would have a better signal than it was on my old.

My four (4) previous phones always worked fine from my house, without any signal issue.  I always had at least 2-3 strokes. When I came home from the VZW store with my first Samsung Intensity III, I hardly noticed 1 stroke and I had drop calls while on the phone.

I spent hours with VZW tech support. After two days I was told that the signal is weak because my area does not have full coverage. When I asked if four days ago was a different coverage than is today – the answer of course was NO. So then I asked why I had a bad reception on the new phone when I had great reception, from the same location, on my old-dying phone? The answer was: it could be a problem with the new phone. I was advised to exchange the phone in the VZW store. I exchanged the phone.

To make the story short ....And, again I exchanged the exchanged phone.

I came home with the third phone. The battery was okay, the voice was not bad, the reception was bad, as it was bad on the first device – only one stroke.

Because I spent so much time on this “upgrade” and the other issues did not show on the third phone, I just gave up on the weak signal issue. I could not do this anymore.

My conspiracy theory is that new devices are not always optimized for the current network, or when activating, do not update to the current release.  Once they release updates to the network, it may improve reception on the phone.

Just make sure you run updates/programming/whatever-they-call-it-now on phones regularly that do not do it themselves.  It should also be the first thing you do right after you set your phone up for the first time, although, when you program it, it should have already done it...but you never know.

I had drop calls while on the phone. Enough is enough. No more calls to VZW tech support. I gave up. If anyone is planning to "upgrade" your old basic phone - do NOT upgrade your old phone to Samsung Intensity III. It is piece of junk.

As soon as I get Samsung Sway from eBay, I will ask VZW to refund the $30.00, which I paid them for an "upgrade”. Let see what they say.

I am NOT SELLING the phone on eBay.

Three weeks ago I “upgraded” my old Samsung Sway to a new Samsung Intensity III through VZW and paid $30.00 upgrade fee.

In three weeks I went through three phones – all with problems. Samsung Intensity III is a junk.

Today I resolved my issue with VZW. They refunded $30.00 upgrade fee, and I purchased Samsung Sway on eBay.

All the basic phones got a degraded EVDO revision. Before this group of phones came out, most basic phones were EVDO rev A capable (rev a had stronger signals and faster data speeds etc). But recently, verizon dumped the REV A and went BACKWARDS to the EVDO Rev 0 (the orginal evdo release. it was slower, had more signal issues etc). But now to get the EVDO rev A back, you either have to have anolderphone,or you have to upgrade to a 4g compatible smartphone.

Thanks for info. If this is the truth – it’s shameful. There are so many VZW customers who are basic phone users.
