cruise ship texting

Can someone please tell me exactly how I have to set my Galaxy 3 to only be able to send and receive text messages on a cruise ship to the bahamas. We only want to use this feature for communicating our locations on the boats to friends. I don't want to hook to the wifi on the boat. So if someone can tell me how to do this so i don't get roaming charges that would be greatly appreciated. thank you

Hi tucker43, don't have a reliable answer for you but would like to pass this along. A friend of mine took a cruise ship out of NYC to down around that area. When she got her Verizon bill she had hundreds of dollars in charges. So get some good info. Goodluck

Use this tool:  International Trip Planner

The sure way to avoid roaming is to put the phone in airplane mode.  Of course, you won't be able to send location information that way.  To do that, you'll need to use either wifi or cellular data.

Cruise ships also charge you whether you signed up for it or not...they also charge 50 cents a minute for wifi and its slow like back in the days of dial up...my phones go into airplane mode and stay there until we are back on US soil

This is the way to ensure NO extra charges.  I'll use the phone to take lots of pictures, and the Facebook, email, phone calls, and all that other stuff will just be on hold until I get back.

Use the phone for a camera if needed otherwise turn off all that social media stuff and really enjoy your vacation.
