since the lollipop update the other day my call log only goes back 4 months. it went back over a year before the update. any way to retrieve this?
No way to restore the phone's call log. Only way to see a log is in the detailed line of the phone number in My Verizon, however that's not very convenient.

I am not aware of a way to stretch the call log past its default period. There are apps out there in the google Play Store that can save logs, messages, MMS, etc.... like SMS Backup and Restore for example. A lot of antivirus apps will backup your logs as well.
