I am leaving Verizon for this.

Verizon lets me know exactly how they feel about there customers by saying ohh if you buy the phone you can keep your plan, why?

And what dumb idiot at Verizon decided 2 GIG was acceptable , we live in 2012 , HD NETFLIX , Audio , E-BOOKS, facetalk , etc all this is usually HD quality = megs  per second.  Sorry verizon you lose I am spreading the word to all my friends co-workers in the GOVT sector up for renewal to leave you until you at least make a plan  equal to 2 GIGABYTES being 100 to 200 GIGABYTES

1 Hour of streaming music in HD quality from you tube and you will have already used a few hundred MEGS, add a nextflix HD movie and boom you are over a GIG

Don't even argue with me either I hold 14 certs in the I.T field along with CISCO so I know what data rates are

Your appeal to your own authority is absurd and I hope no one holds it with any value. If you were really an authority on this subject, then you would be familiar with AT&T's network reliability issue that stemmed from the addition of the iPhone on a network that was unprepared for the massive increase in data use. It is also worth noting that the data rates are not in question here; instead, what is in question is the relationship between a customer's extensive data use and another customer's ability to use the service for the purpose of making calls. We can view this in a pretty easy way: 3G networks are considered to cost much more to maintain and have greater limitations than 4G LTE networks, which is the primary reason why you would see a company slow down the data speeds of a 3G device when the device is among the top 5% of data users on a particular congested tower while on unlimited data. Interestingly enough, the moment they activate a 4G phone, it would not matter what usage they have on the same tower.

We can say, without a doubt, that profitability was under consideration with the new data tiers, however, the very reason why they do not allow the unlimited data package to every person is the very reason you want it for: Netflix, audio, etc. They are making an interesting concession for you, though. If you want unlimited data with a new device, you can decide to pay full retail for the device.

The bottom line for you is this: if you don't like the way they are running their business, then please find a company you would like better. As for the majority of their customers, there is little to no anger.

I have been with Verizon for over 15 years and that kind of loyalty should at least allow me to keep my unlimited plan. My problem is it is Verizon has become like all the other big corps out there who's customers just become numbers. I can understand that they have to turn a profit to stay in business but at the same time it is repeat business that keeps a company going. Eventually there will be another company that will come along and have just as good and or better service than Verizon at a cheaper price. It is inevitable. These days there are not that many companies that survive past a few decades before they crash and burn or sell out. I feel this is because the customers who have been loyal and never left for another service get pushed to the wayside and mixed in with the new customers or ship jumpers. If you are going to have tiered plans then you should have tiered rewards. When I first started with Verizon I got a $100 rebate every 2 years to upgrade. Then it went $50 a few years ago. Now it is nothing. So what does my loyalty get me? Loyal customers should get something at least for every 5 or 10 years we have been dedicated to you. So for now I keep my phone and my upgrade until I can either upgrade and keep my unlimited plan or I find a better company with a better plan.

I agree with you 100% as I have been a VZW customer for just as long... unfortunately loyalty means precisely SQUAT..... sorry... oh, and now that loyalty tells me that in order for me to keep my hubby and I with unlimited everything I have to pay FULL RETAIL PRICE for a smart phone... How's that for taking care of your loyal customers?

Agree with you doo357... lost my unlimited in one of my phones, argued with VZ and got nowhere.  Now, I no longer subscribe to FIOS internet, TV nor Landline...  next time will be to just cancel my 10 YR account with them..

This policy is a year old. If you had paid full price for a phone you could have kept unlimited data. You CHOSE to take the discount upgrade. Frankly I can't wait until Verizon gets rid of unlimited data. It's not really fair the LOYAL customers like ME who have also been with Verizon for years get subpar services but unlimited data users use up all the bandwidth. And in the end by this time next year Verizon will ave gotten rid of unlimited data completely. By the way you mention you had FiOS internet. Well that means you have broadband available. So why do you need unlimited mobile data? Use the wi-fi function on your phone. Also if FiOS in your area mean it's populated so there should be tons of free wi-fi hotpots when your out. So once again why do you need unlimited mobile data?
