Why don't I hear a sound when I get a Message?

I have a s6 edge + I'm using verizon messaging but it never makes a sound when I get a message what am I doing wrong?

Make sure that you have selected a working (preferably default) notification sound in the settings menu of the app.

I tried it still not working

Uninstall and reinstall the app.

Actually I just fixed it I had to allow it to show messages in the

notification panel

Right, make sure you have notifications enabled...makes sense.
