Verizon Visual Voicemail is a RIP OFF - FIX IT!

On  AT&T / iPhones Visual Voicemail is FLAWLESS and is FREE

On Verizon "VISUAL VOICEMAIL" requires putting the freakin phone to your head to hear the message (even on speaker as the volume is WAY low) - VISUAL voicemail with the phone at my head? Yea...REALLY **bleep** THERE VERIZON!

To add insult to injury for a crappy implementation of a service that obviously is being done well elsewhere, where others offer it for free Verizon actually has the NERVE to CHARGE $2.99/Month for this CRAPPY SERVICE.

Dude, get a Google voice account and can visual voicemail. Google voice is free, and it works on Android.

Yea, if the number didn't matter...problem is it's a primary business line.

That's one of the great things about Google voice, you don't have to use the GV number to take advantage of the voicemail. It will work on your normal VZW number.

You can also use YouMail - it's free and is a good alternative to VVM.

HA! Thanks for the Google Voice mail info!!!!  I just signed up with my Google account for my Droid, and Voila --- I have FREE Visual Voice Mail which sends a text of the call. Just had Verizon Tech Support remove the $2.99/month charge.

I love free stuff as long as it works.   Thanks!!!!!!

When someone leaves you a message on Google Voice they are burning up your Anytime Minutes.  With Verizon regular voicemail or Verizon Visual Voicemail, Anytime Minutes are not used when a caller leaves a voicemail.  So you either pay $2.99/month for Verizon Visual Voicemail or you risk going over your minutes with Google Voice.  It only takes about five to six overage minutes to accrue more than $2.99 in charges.  It's a tradeoff. 

A concern I have with both Google Voice and Verizon Visual Voicemail is the message playback volume.  I can barely hear the message in a quiet room and can't hear it at all if I'm in a mildly noisey area.   Sure wish there was a fix for this.  I know other people have this issue, but I've searched for a solution and came up with nothing.  

Additionally, another big problem I've had with Google Voice is the system doesn't always recognize when the caller has hung up.  I've had several voice messages go 5 - 8 minutes after the caller hung up, burning additional minutes.

If I ever go over my monthly minutes because of voice mails, I'll tell the particular callers to SHUT IT. So far, the text of my voice mails is very convenient although some of the word transcriptions are funny. Can't wait until one of my Spanish-speaking friends leaves a call!  I agree with the volume issue but I usually hold the phone to my ear as I feel those messages are meant for me, not the entire room. Just saying.

If someone leaves a message, even for one second, that uses one full minute.  I guess if you don't get voicemails that often it's no big deal.  

Also, I never said the volume was low in speakerphone mode.  It's low in the normal handset speaker.  The one you put your ear too.

They only charge you minutes to listen if you use your min or unless you put it on friends and family.
