Turbo 2 and Android Auto App

I have a Turbo 2 with Lollipop which will not connect with the Android Auto App.  The car is a brand new 2016 Honda Civic which should auto connect with no problem.  I have tried three different cables and have followed the suggestion I found on another board to use USB debugging.  The phone just sits there in saying "connect phone to your car".  No amount of messing with the phone will get it to connect.  Has anyone had any luck?
