I have had many people comment that when I am using the phone, and go hands-free by holding it between my ear and my shoulder, my voice becomes muffled and makes it sound like I am under water.
Anyone else have this issue? Any possible solutions?

no seriously,
surely there is a solution for your problem.
try *228 or reboot or reset or for the worst case scenario, exchange if you havent passed your 30 day trial period.
if you have already done the update, which i assume you have, some people have stated that a simple reboot or factory reset solved a majority of their problems. you could be one of those people. or the exchange might be what you need, it could be a simple hardware problem. (you can check that by recording your voice, see if you hear the muffled sound)
if you are not satisfied, and within your 30 days, i figure you have the right to get a phone that works for the amount of money you put down. i just hope you dont have to mail it to motorola, the horror of not having it for a couple weeks....

got this off of droidforums.net:
Huge thread, I will try to read through all of it at a later time. I have been getting this in the store alot. Here is what you can do to improve call quality. I have done this on every customer's Droid.
##7764726 (##PROGRAM)
CALL Button
Enter SPC Password - 000000
VERIFY
04 Vocode
Select EVRC-B
This will change how the phone compresses and decompresses call audio. Seems to work really well, I have noticed and improvement for sure and I no longer get the "you sound like you're underwater" complaints from people I talk to. Give it a shot!

Could you be covering up the microphone by holding it that way?

Use EVRC-B with caution; not available in all areas!

true but as stated from the source that i retrieved this from, a majority of towers are know utilizing this (and soon all will) and it would not be too difficult to change it back if the number is programed into your contacts.
but since switching my calls are crystal, no background echos, gurgling, muffled noises.

I was wondering the same thing. I always had a bad tendency to do the same thing with my old Blackberry. If I wasn't careful in placing it "just right" against my face, I would cover the mic and cause problems with the audio quality.

the only thing is that the mic is on the lower half of the droid, now i am not putting anyone down but unless you are morbidly obese, then the mic would be covered up and you would have to really be pressing the phone against your face.
