Samsung ties with Apple for title of world's largest smartphone manufacturer

Samsung's decline of late has allowed Apple – which posted a stellar quarter in which it sold 74.5 million iPhones – to catch up to the South Korean manufacturer. According to data from market research firm Strategy Analytics, both Samsung and Apple control a global market share of 19.6 percent and are now tied for the title of the world's largest smartphone vendor.   What will your next phone be, Apple or Droid ?

Well, Samsung manufacturers way more models and total units than Apple, but Apple's brand is just that, a brand more than a product.  IDK that either can be compared in real life until they are both on the same OS, and....I doubt that'll ever be the case.  Plus, Apple isn't as easy to come by price-wise in developing countries.

I am staying on android, I like the personalizability and hate paying for a NAME and a used piece of fruit on the back of my phone. Apple is a status symbol.

Apple: very simplistic OS, smaller screens (until 6 plus), compatible with all mac systems, oldest smartphone system.

Android: personalization, variety of manufacturers, many add removable battery, NFC tehcnology, Micro SD storage, better battery, better cameras, faster processor, compatible with all computers as USB FLASH DEVICE, less expensive as a general rule.

All reasons I prefer android.

But to each their own.

It would have to be the Droid right now. Apple spends a great deal on advertising and promoting their iPhone and iPod devices, always have. And a lot less on the device it self. Just take a look at the system specs for the Samsung Galaxy s5 versus the iPhone 6 plus. Samsung Galaxy s5 - 2.7 Ghz quad core cpu, 3 Gigs ram, 20 Mega pixel camera. iPhone 6 plus - 1.4 Ghz dual core cpu, 1 Gig of ram, 8 Mega pixel camera. For just a few things.

Now, I will state that I would be interested in a WP after they get it together at MS and updates are proven to be smooth with VZW.  I still believe that platform could work if their apps were more in line with the Google Play Store.  Apple???  I'd try that too, but I think its more of a lateral move from Android outside of the personalization aspect.

All very good point and I'm with you for now on Android. Apple would need to change a few things before I buy a fruit phone.

Your so right.. on the brand name. I was talking to someone in the Verizon store and they ask me about buying a new phone. I pointed out about three good android models and the guy said "oh no I don't want a  regular phone, I want the Apple.

They sell the name "Apple" and not the phone.

To be fair, Android devices have so many variations in the hardware that the software has to support while Apple can make a device operate just as smoothly as an Android with higher paper specs.  How well software works with hardware is a huge point to make.
