Is there some way to set my preferences on the HTC Eris so that the screen is not locked upon boot up? What the heck is the purpose of the screen lock, anyway?

To save battery power, the phone automatically turns off the screen when you leave it idle after a certain period of time. Therefore there is no way to turn off the screen lock. Locking the screen prevents accidental screen touches when the phone is in your bag, purse, or pocket.
