Will Verizon ever release a push to talk app for our android phones (Thunderbolt and DroidX) so we can communicate with other Verizon push to talk customers?

I do not know of anything in the works on Verizon's end, but there are some great apps to download in the Market for Push-To-Talk. Search around one in the Market, and if you like it, download it. If you do not like it after downloading it, just remove it from the phone by going to Settings>Applications>Manage Applications> Click on said unwanted app> Uninstall.
I hope that answers your question.

Who says you only want to talk to other Android phones?
Well, if you stop and think about what the OP is saying, with a company full of PTT flip-phones they cannot use all the fancy messging of which you speak. Only Verzion PTT.
I have multiple ruggedized handsets with PTT-only service (can't even voice out) that we issue to workers in the field. Unfortunately I cannot issue Android-based handsets to my managers because there is not way for them to talk to the workers. Sure, they could add a market PTT app like Tiki but that will only allow Android phones to talk to each other. The only impractical solutions, which undermines the whole PTT concept, is to issue two phones to managers.
It's a loose - loose situation for both me and Verizon.
Oh well, I don't need the added expense of paying for data plans for my managers anyway.

Mike,
It is obvious that VZW does not understand the problem with the limited implementation of VZW PTT. The next post after your reply illustrates the problem that we in the real world experience.

Someone in this thread said Verizon Wireless doesn't grok the situation: accurate observation. My wife has a NON-ANDROID PTT phone; I have a Droid. I want my Droid to have an app that interfaces with the PTT feature on my wife's phone. The app market leader (TiKL) is fine if you want a PTT feature Droid-to-Droid; it does absolutely nothing to talk to any non-Android phone.
