Re: Note 4 Lollipop phone connecting to WiFi and 4G at same time

What's funny is that my girlfriend is running Lollipop on her Samsung Galaxy S5. Her provider is AT&T. She's had no problems. When she's connected to WiFi, her 4G greys out and her data usage report reflects that. This is exactly how my phone used to work when I was running KitKat.

Why would a Samsung phone running Lollipop on the AT&T network work correctly, while a Samsung phone running Lollipop on Verizon connects to WiFi and 4G at the same time? That sounds like Verizon's issue, not Samsung's.

I am having the same issue. I noticed when I got a text from Verizon stating that I was near my data limit. Hope they find a fix soon.

Try disabling Smart switch under wifi settings to prevent lollipop from using data instead of wifi Whenever it chooses

I am still running KitKat and both the Wi-Fi and 4g symbol are lit up.

Your mobile data is still active to send or receive  MMS messages.  You can toggle mobile data off and only use WiFi, but you will not be able to send or receive MMS during that time.  Your device will also periodically connect to the tower  via data very briefly to assist in location settings, etc.  I also run Android 4.4.4 on my Moto X 2013, so I know what you are referring to when they light up at the same time.

So along with the issue of both being on and pulling data,  many of us Note 4 lollipop users have been experiencing very slow WiFi.  Play store,  Facebook,  ect become unusable do to network timeout and super slow data.   Numerous comments on Android Central Forum. If you turn off mobile,  WiFi works fine,  turn off WiFi,  mobile works fine,  but not both on together.   Seems to be a switching problem like the old Droid Bionic used to have.   Seriously,  this needs to be fixed,  I just got the Note and love it... Or at least trying to.   Please don't make us wait for a fix like we did with the Bionic...

Did you get any updates from Google after your upgrade to Lollipop?  As I was replying to the other person, my WiFi and mobile data indicators are always lit up on KitKat.  I ask because several Google updates rolled out to my Moto X Thursday evening and since Friday norbing, my WiFi is very freaking slow I want to throw this phone. Haha

Have any of you performed a hard reset? Always recommended after a software update. If you wanna say you refuse to do it, that's fine; but you will continue to have problems.

Hi, can I ask what phone you have?  I have the HTC ONE M7 and am STILL waiting for my Lollipop.  Smiley Sad  I wish theyd just make it a download and go from there.  I'm like a kid on Christmas and the day never comes, haha!!

Any advice?  Sure would appreciate it, thanks!!

I wonder if you people came out of the update, and when rebooting selected Yes to backup to Verizon Cloud, or otherwise enabled the Google cloud and your phone is periodically backing stuff up to the cloud. I have both of these disabled on my LG G2. I back my photos up to my PC.

Yes, you also probably want to disable in Settings | WiFi (I think this is where it is) Smart Switch, and anything that says, search for a stronger WiFi connection or similar.

One thing you should all do is go into Settings | Mobile Data, and select the menu, and select Show WiFi.

Now when you go into Settings | Mobile Data, you should see two tabs, one for the Cellular Radio and one for WiFi. You can select the tab you want and the date range you want, and you can see what programs are consuming radio bandwidth (i.e. which apps are using the respective radios) by scrolling down.

I've read in other places, Facebook / FB Messanger being a problem. But you should be able to determine from this display who the heavy hitters are.

HTH.
