In few words you can buy a 4G LTE or 3G phone in craigslist and keep my unlimited data ????

Yes you have to buy a phone elsewhere or at full retail price in order to keep your unlimited data!
There is some speculation that if you move from 3G to 4G, even paying full price due to a difference in billing codes forcing a change to your account however, I have seen no confirmation of this. Also, Verizon's official line is that, if you buy a device full price, or bring your own from elsewhere (craigslist purchase), you can keep unlimited data.
When I first got my HTC INC it was really fast. Recently it seems to me that the 3G speeds have dropped quite a bit. Now my phone is going through another update nightmare (low on space, again.... freezing up.....). I considered updating my perfectly good working phone a few months ago when I was being told I could upgrade. I figured upgrading used to be worth it when it was "New Every Two" until that was taken from us. Then it was, I think, $100.00 off a new phone if you resigned a 2 year agreement. This followed by $50.00 off a new phone with a 2 year contract and now it is $30.00 off of a new phone with a 2 year agreement. My bill went from $40.00 400/700 to $108.00 unlimited everything. I have got used to having the unlimited service even though I don't go over my original minutes each month. The Data on the other hand could be a problem. I called customer service with concerns that I would have to sign a new plan when changing to 4G and I was assured that my plan would be grandfathered to the new 4G phone. So I waited a couple of months and this update comes along and renders my Inc a freezing up piece of garbage. I have been with Verizon for 13 to 15 years and never thought I would have to shop for a better service\price elsewhere. Totally bummed
I did the same thing wanted to upgrade but wasn't sure which phone I wanted so I waited. I forgot and missed the last day to grandfather my old unlimited plan in . I am really annoyed since I have had verizon for 15 years now, I called two days late and was hoping that they would still upgrade me but they said they could'nt only at the new price. My bill has gone up over the last years so much that I am paying over $240 a month, I do have four phones one is just a plain phone with no data plan but the price has gotten out of hand and I do not intend to pay anymore for Verizon service. I decided that I am going to let my contract run out as long as I don't upgrade to another phone I keep the old price, and I am hoping my phone holds out for a while. But in the meantime I am looking around for another plan it is unfair the way verizon is treating there loyal customers.

I would like to know how you have "Been Screwed"? Plans change, providers look for new ways to generate revenue. Like Jim asked, why didn't you upgrade before the 28th? That is what I did, I went from a perfectly working Fascinate (Probably 1 of the few..) to a RAZR MAXX, which was being sold @ $199 at the time. Both my wife and I did that. This way, we are in a new 2 year contract, still keep unlimited data, and get a 4G phone to use. We both still have our older 3G only phones to use as a backup just in case something happens.
To answer your original question, YES, if you buy the phone at full price from Verizon, or buy something from another place to activate on your line, you will keep your unlimited data. The only way you will lose it now is if you sign a new 2 year contract. At least that is the way it is now, who knows in 6 months or so what will happen.

I only found out about the upgrade by June 28 because as I was looking at phones, a chat window opened and I spoke to a rep about one of the phones ( I can upgrade now at a discount). She mentioned about the new data plan and told me about the June 28 date.
That was the first I heard
about losing my old unlimited data plan if I did not upgrade. This conversation took place on June 26 two days before the cutoff to upgrade. Can anyone tell me if Verizon let there customers
know about this because if I had'nt been looking at phones I would never have known about this.

It was mentioned through many websites, and I think Verizon even mentioned it on their site. As far as when it was announced, I think it was in May? Can someone else confirm the date? I know it was at least in May, as I did my upgrade on 6/3, knowing that the plan was going into affect on June 28th.
It was announced on Jun 12, 2012. There was previous announcements that something was coming earlier in the year, but no one had any details.

I think people are confusing the $30 upgrade fee when stating you can keep unlimited by getting a phone elsewhere.
The $30 upgrade fee is waived if you bring a phone from another source..... ie ebay, Craigslist.
However the following is from a VZW Press release concerning the ending of unlimited data plans:
When the new options are introduced, Unlimited Data will no longer be available to our customers purchasing handsets and signing a new contract. Customers who choose to purchase phones at full retail price and are currently on an unlimited smartphone data plan will be able to keep that plan.
There is no comment about bringing a device from another source.
