I'm not a Stratosphere expert, but in the texts I've received that has attachments, i.e photos, there is a small icon in the upper right of the screen that looks like the SD card. I assume that if you touch that icon, it will save the attachment to the card.
I would suggest you download the Stratosphere user guide. I did it before I chose the phone so I could see how it operated and how easy/difficult it would be to get used to since I was coming from a basic phone. You probably have noticed you get no notice from the phone when you get an email or text message. You can download an app call noLED which can be configure to give you notice when you receive and email or txt message.

If you touch and hold the message bubble that the attachment is in and go to "Attached Items" it should ask you if you want to save the files.

It's actually pretty easy. While you're looking at the song, picture or video that someone sent you, just tap the menu key at the bottom of your phone. It's the one on the far left. It will give you some options. One of the options is "save file". It will usually save it to your SD card. Hope this helps. I spent a little time figuring this out myself. I've had the phone for about a month and I totally love it.
