My dad got a mywifi and we dont use it at all. I want to get a phone. can i substitute the 2yr contract of the mywifi to put it on a phone.

You can change devices which may require a plan or feature change depending on the plan you have now. The contract isn't attached to the device that you have but to your mobile number itself. Changing devices won't affect it. It will be there until the line is disconnected or the contract expires. There would also be no activation fee for switching devices.

If you don't already have your device, you may have to pay full price for the device through VZW or buy device without contract. Hope you have your own compatible VZW device. You could also buy one from EBAY or swappa.com. I prefer swappa.com because of the way the phone is checked out before they let someone sell on swappa.com. I have purchased from EBAY without issue though.
