I just bought an LG Lucid 2 with Jelly Bean (Android 4.1.2) last month (5/13) at a Verizon store. The phone is lovely and a huge upgrade over my old phone, however, I do not receive text messages from certain numbers. I am in the area code 202. Two friends of mine in the 717 area code can receive my texts, but I do not receive texts from them. Calling them and receiving calls from them are fine.
I had my first go-around with Verizon tech support today. We tried reinstalling the SIM card and they also tried something else on their end. It still does not work.
They said multiple times that they believe it could be on my friends' ends but I do not think this is the case because I did not have this problem with my previous carrier that I had up until last month. Also, neither of my friends have this issue with anyone else. Both of my friends use AT&T wireless.
Is there any possibility that this could be connected with my 10-digit phone number itself? My number had some wonky issue with calling certain numbers with my last carrier, Virgin. I don't know anybody else who has ever had issues solely with specific numbers.
I am going to try Verizon tech support again tomorrow but it is difficult because I have to bother my friends to test if Verizon's solutions work each time they try something new.
Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. Should I try another SMS program other than the default?

Verizon tech promptly fixed the problem today. They said there had been a problem with how the messages were being routed.
