Since getting the Galaxy Note 3, Data has gone from less than 1 GB a month to almost 5gb! No changes in the way the new phone is used compared to the old one. What can be eating the data and what do I need to change?

Sporty1,
We definitely want to get to the bottom of what is using your data. When you go to Settings>Data usage what shows to have used the most data? Do you connect to wifi when available?

Where are you seeing MQTT?
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

When we looking at Facebook under data usage, this showed up as a push notification service.

Also with Facebook, check to see that the video option is set to ONLY PLAY VIDEOS ON WI-FI. The default is to play them, and they use data incredibly fast. Check to see if they just start playing all the time - and turn off that option!

Check and see if there's this thing called Google Plus on the smartphone. I ran into a similar problem last year when I got a Droid Maxx. It ended up being Google Plus that was causing the high data usage. I removed it and all was well afterward. There could be a setting for Google Plus I was unaware of, that can stop it from uploading or backing up data. But I just rid the Droid Maxx of it.
