Flaky app folders

This is more an annoyance report than a request for help; I doubt if there's anything that can be done.

I've got a Samsung Stratosphere with Android Gingerbread. I've recently done some organizing, and created a folder on one of the home screens for favorite apps. I moved 9 app shortcuts there. Today when I restarted my phone trying to solve another problem, I found that the system had duplicated all the shortcuts in this folder: every shortcut was in there twice, and I had to delete them manually. Later when I restarted again, I found that all but 3 of the shortcuts had been removed from the folder entirely! I had to recreate them.

I also use folders to organize apps in the app drawer (or whatever it's called when you tap Applications from the home screen). I find that fairly often one or two apps have "escaped" from their folders, generally always the same one or two. I put them in and a day or two later they're out again.

None of this is a major issue, just a stupid, stupid annoyance that a well-functioning operating system ought not to have. I am a little curious whether anyone else has had them.

Dave-in-Decatur,

Those are definitely unusual behaviors. Have you tried booting the phone up in safe mode (http://bit.ly/rMd6fZ)? This may help determine if the software is the root of the problem. Also, try creating another shortcut folder with different applications to see if it happens again. Keep me posted.

Thanks!

i had similar issues playing around with folders so i just use "apps organizer." you can classify any apps into one of 6 predefined categories. for example, i have marked all of my favorite games as "games." i have the "games" icon on my homescreen. it's not an actual folder, but a joystick looking icon. when i tap it, all of my favorite games are inside. you can also add categories if you'd like (the defaults are android, games, internet, multimedia, tools, other apps). it works VERY well for 2 years now (i began using the app when i believe you couldn't even add folders to the homescreen.....pre-froyo).

Sounds very cool! I'm big on organizing, so I'll definitely put it on my apps-to-check-out list.

Thanks, Adam. Unfortunately, the occurrences are too random to try to diagnose with Safe Mode. It's not that big of an annoyance, just a weird, pesky little thing.
